Advance Auto selling Purolators with rubber grip can.....

Advance Auto is replacing their frams with their house brand "total grip" filters. They're basically a regular white-can purolator with a red textured coating. And they're like $.20 cheaper to boot. I'm definately going to be using them.

Just bought a 2nd neon, deciding on oil.

I just bought a second neon here, so that i can keep the other neon nicer and have it for a fun weekend car. Anyhow, I want to switch the DOHC over from 10w30 M1 to something more sereous. Since it's not going to be a daily driver anymore I want something primarily with high RPM operation in...

    Mechanical oil pressure gauge issues:

I recently noticed that my oil pressure gauge in the neon doesn't like to go down when i turn the car off. Is there anything in the line that i should look for that might be causing it to get backed up? I don't think anything is wrong with the gauge itself, and i'm using decent copper tubing...

Very pleased with M1 during HPDE

Last year i attended a Solo 1 style HPDE where the most laps i'd do at a time was 3 laps during a practice session. At the time, i apprehensive about SuperSyn, so i was using Valvoline Synpower. That turned out to be a mistake. The oil temps were obviously too high, and/or the oil was thinning...

The neon likes to eat platinum electrodes....

It's pretty much generally accepted in the neon community that the factory champion spark plugs (like the ones i have in now) work best. But, for 5000 miles last summer, i tried bosch +2 since i got them for free. Here's what she did to the electrode. Note how the platinum started out life...

Hmmm, Amsoil Vs Mobil 1 for cold starts on another board....

We've been talking about synthetics, and it seems like when neons.org is involved, someone has to chime in about Amsoil. Now, I don't have anything against Amsoil, but it seems like some people don't have a realistic opinion of amsoil as it relates to other oils, ESPECIALLY Mobil 1. check this...

    Racing + bad rod bearing....

= this: A friend i race with gave me this engine after tearing it out of a neon. We knew it likely had a spun bearing or something, it went from having a light rod sounding knock to totally kaput after an autocross one weekend. Anyhow tuesday i opened it up and had a look-see. Apparently this...

How well does *no* oil lubricate?

A friend of mine came over today, to use my garage for a little bit while i was working on an engine. He changed his oil (chrysler 3.3 in a dynasty) and did some other miscellaneous stuff. Normally I give him a hand, but, well, i was tearing apart an engine, and i trusted him to do a good job...
