    Oil Question for 2010 Volvo 3.2 L6

I've got a 2008 XC/70 with the 3.2 L6 and have been running Castrol Edge 5W30 in it, and buy it at AZ whenever they are running a decent sale. Currently have about 23K miles on the engine and I'm changing the oil about every 7-8K miles even though the Edge meets the extended drain intervals and...

is Mobil 1 a group 4, true synthetic?

Regarding the OP's question... I can only offer my opinion and reasoning. I used to use M1 exclusively as I've done since it first appeared as a consumer product in the 70's. It saved my motorcycle from seizing during summer months when the engine ran very very hot. Conventional oils simply...

    Techron

I'm curious. The large bottles treat 20 gallons of gas and cost between $10-12 here. If my math is right, that works out to $.50-$.60 per gallon to treat. If you just buy the lowest grade Chevron or Texaco gas, you will already get plenty of Techron additive in the pump gas, and I'd be...

Castrol Edge - Rebate makes it worth a try?

I noticed today when I was at Advance Auto that Castrol Edge shelf price is $6.49 a qt vs. $6.99 for Syntec. Guess they are trying to get people to give it a try. At that price, plus the $15 mail in rebate Castrol has going now through 12/15/09 if you buy 5 1 QT bottles or more, I decided to...

GC: here is my plan - tell me if I'll be ok...

GC has a pretty high TBN and with those low mileage numbers would hold up well in my opinion. I think it depends a lot on how you drive those 1000-2000 km's... If its mostly short trips less than a few miles each including winter driving, then condensation of moisture in the crankcase and fuel...

    ZDDP and German Castrol?

I found a VOA on GC posted a little over a year ago on this site that showed Zinc level at 1160. I recently had a Blackstone UOA done on GC after 6000 miles in my BMW and Zinc was measured at 990 against a Blackstone universal average of 961.

Gold vs. Green German Castrol... ?

The sticky thread: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=718643&page=1 will give you probably as much as you'll find out on the subject here. AFAIK, the green stuff hasn't been made in quite a while and is difficult to find. Some may have stashes, but are...

Bad idea to run mineral in modern turbo

I run full syn in my TT 535i since the manual calls for syn only. The N54 runs hot anyway, and it just seems right to run full syn in it. That said, I would hope turbo coking is less of an issue if, as in the case of my BMW, the turbos are water-cooled by an electric-pump driven cooling system...

Best oil for new GM Direct Injection Engine

Direct Injection engines generally suffer 2 problems that port injection engines don't have to the same degree. First is fuel dilution in the oil as some designs get more fuel down into the lower part of the cylinder where it gets by the rings and into the oil. This is hard on oil - so at least...
