As long as there is lead in AvGAS they won't use 100% PAO oils. Anyone have any information as to whether this applies to lead replacement additives?

Elf Tech Team - PAO vs Ester

On the contrary, the attraction of the Ester molecule to the metal will slow that “hydrodynamic” phenomenon and may cost horsepower. Is there a link between this and higher HTHS as HTHS increases when comparing Silkolene, Motul and Redkine

    Synthetics are inferior.

Perhaps a time warp Supreme Engine Oils are recommended for use in veteran, classic and vintage cars, motorcycles and tractors, where engine design and tolerances prohibit the use of modern multigrade, high additive level oils. Modern dispersant additives keep combustion chamber contamination...

Zinc dialkyl dithio phosphate (ZDDP, ZnDTP, or ZDP) is a family of zinc salts of dithio organophosphates. They are soluble in nonpolar solvents, so they easily dissolve in mineral and synthetic oils used as lubricants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZDDP

Dave Doug Hillary posted this when discussing our old cars and oil Quote I did my Engineering training - six years - with BMC - in NZ and in England (Stewart & Ardern, "The Vale" Acton - 1962-63) The export prototype Mini was my first development project in NZ in 1959 The tragedy of BMC was...

Oil is NOT thinner when cold.

Makes sense as from same site oil sourced from Gulf Coast, for example, could be thick when cold, yet unable to protect the engine adequately when hot. By contrast another oil from Pennsylvania, which was lot easier to pour when ambient, would be just right for automotive engine when hot. The...

From Synlube site "here is in brief what has happened over the 70 years. SAE 60 grade was added as the need for thicker oil in aviation and heavy duty engines became apparent. SAE "W" grades were added in 1952 as it became apparent that engines could not be started in Cold Winter Climatic...

I only joined the car owning society when 20W50 was in vogue. Is there any connection to the xxW terminolgy, when a straight 20wt was used in winter and a higher wt in summer. Did a 20wt originally meet the API specification for a 20W, Pre Redline.
