    Waxing white cars.

My eyes arent as good as they used to be and I am having trouble seeing the wax when detailing my white truck. Any tricks to help visualise the dried wax before buffing? I was thinking of some low intensity UV light or the like. I have also thought of using a polymeric sealer that requires no...

    Window cleaning

Thanks for the comments about the air dryer. I will use my money for more MF towels. Another question: I can never get the glass truly clean (interior) on my car. Shortly after cleaning, a white haze forms where I have cleaned. Very noticeable in direct sunlight. I have tried many cleaners...

They come in differet sizes ranging from a handheld size at 12,800 cfm up to a dual motor 8 hp size at 48,000 cfm. I like the small one for...

Tips on waxing a white car?

You all are very informative. Perhaps I should elaborate a bit. I just bought a new Tundra SR5/TRD 4x4 truck.(Its white, got a good deal on it). My problem is seeing the haze or lack thereof on the white finish. I am not an obsessive detailer, just like to keep the finish slick. Easier is better...

    Clay bar question

Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds like clay is good if you clean and wax the car often. (I dont, I am 52 years old and do a lot more driving than detailing). Can you suggest a good clear coat cleaner? I am not sure the McGuires stuff is all it claims to be. Thanks again. ebc

    Clay bar question

Greetings, I tried using a clay bar for cleaning the finish on my car. Not sure I am doing it right since I found imbedded dirt and bug spots after the job. I used the quick detailer lubricant liberally. The clay seemed quite stiff even after kneeding for several minutes. Any suggestions...

    M1 in 0W-30

Greetings, While perusing the automotive section at the local Wally world, I noticed a new flavor of M1; 0W-30. Nice lime green cap. Claim is that it saves enough fuel at 3$/gallon to pay for itself. M1 now has an oil for all occasions. I remember when it just came in one grade. Regards, ebc

    Drought and detailing

Greetings, I live in the southeast. Our water supply is in trouble due to a very dry year. I have cut way back on car washing and other non-essential uses of water. Any thoughts on ways to get the most out of a car wash? How about a bug and spot remover that works with minimal water? Thanks, ebc

    Source of engine noise

I unplugged the connector and there was no whine upon starting. Guess its time for a replacement alternator. Thanks for the tip. bc

    Source of engine noise

The radio does not have to be on. It just has the same sound. It could be the alternator diodes. It started early this spring about the time I replaced the original battery which had cracked and leaked acid. bc

    Source of engine noise

Yes. It has a metal rod for a probe. The sound is reminiscent of a car radio (am) when you had unshielded wiring and the generator signal would bleed through. Thanks, bc

    Source of engine noise

Will do. The thing still makes good voltage (of course that does not mean it can handle a load). Thanks, bc

    Source of engine noise

Greetings, My 2001 Chevy silverado 1500 had developed a "wheez" that is rpm dependent. I have checked for vacuum leaks with a leak detector but it only works in the ultrasound range. It sounds like it is coming from the alternator or just beneath it. I checked the bearings on the alternator and...

    Sensor problem

Hello, I drive a 2001 2wd Silverado 1500/5.3l. The washer pump needed replacing last week. After I finished the job and refilled the reservoir, the "Low Washer Fluid" alert comes on every restart for about ten seconds although the tank is nearly full. Any ideas about this one? Thanks, ebc

Why do people replace cars that can be repaired?

Agreed. Just getting my car to a shop is a major hassle. It usually involves some unpaid time off from the job and cab fare since my mechanic does not have shuttle service. I can handle that occasionally, but not as a routine. When they get untrustworthy, its time for a change. bc
