Should I stay or should I go? Oil suggestions

I have a car and a couple of motorcycles that see similar use. for those I change the oil/filter every 12 months regardless of low miles. Overkill? Maybe, but once a year OCIs are not going to break the bank.

    Decent quality motorcycle stands?

If you have something that hangs below the frame tubes (tranny, oil tank, etc) you will need to buy or make something like these frame protectors. Cut them to length as needed and slip them onto the lower frame tubes where you will be placing the lift. Gives you about 1 inch of clearance (also...

    Decent quality motorcycle stands?

More info and some "action shots". Maybe the best $80 I've spent. Cosco, Sam's Club, Harbor Freight, and more should have them for $100 or less. There are models with more options as well for a bit more $$$. http://www.motorcyclejacks.com/LATV-J.shtml

    Decent quality motorcycle stands?

On some bikes you may need to put "bumpers" on the lower frame of the bike to keep items that hang lower than the frame from getting damaged by the lift arms. On the other hand some bikes have a skid plate right at the center of gravity and you can just lift directly. Harley actually used to...

    Decent quality motorcycle stands?

Just curious, why stands and not a $100 lift. I've had a cheap chinese made (Loren) 1500 lb lift for 10 years and use it all the time for fluid changes, basic maintenance as well as the thorough spring cleanings on my bikes (gets the bike up high and both wheels off the ground for spinning and...

startup experience last night at 7 degrees

Wife's car has set outside the last two days, +1F and +2F. Seemed to do fine with Motorcraft 5W20. I start it and let it run while I scrape the windows and go back in to pour the last cup of coffee for my drive. Then I back mine out and put it in the toasty 34F garage so when she leaves 2 1/2...

    Wet clutch, diesel oil

Cool site. I'm surprised by the absence of some North American 15W40 motor oils. Shell Rotella (Rimula is), Valvoline Premium Blue, etc. Delvac, Delo, Motorcraft are there though.

    Wet clutch, diesel oil

Aside from Shell Rotella I'm not sure that any of the HDEOs carry the JASO compliance on their label. But that does not mean they won't meet the requirement, they may have just not seen the need for the test since it is primarily a motorcycle concern. Rotella just started putting it on the...

    Honda Civic EK3 / 6,500 miles / Castrol GTX 20W-50

I have not seen those levels of Phos and Zinc since the SL version of this oil. Was this old stock. New stuff has been showing about 800 ppm.

    Best Cycle Oil Filter

Is it me or does the K&N look like the media is a bit thicker? By the way Dennis Kirk has Hiflowfiltro for $7 to $9 depending on the application. Tons of motorcycle stuff there and if you buy $100 on various things shipping is free. Just saying, it is Christmas. Shipping on filters is not high...

    PP vs PU pricing

I feel like I got suckered in on the PU. Was spending $18 per jug on PP then it has climbed up to $23.50 while PU has come down to $25. bought the PU but I would like to get back to about $18 but prices are up across the board. Probably shopping for a new oil next time around.

    Post your latest oil change

Did the Fall service on two of the cars this weekend. 2000 GM 4.3 Vortec, PU 5W30 and Ecore Filter. Walmart was out of PP 5W30 (the usual fill) in the 5 Qt jug and PU was "only" $1.50 more at $25. Wasn't it about a year ago that I could get PP for $18? All the 5 Qt jug prices were up...

did mobil change the bike oil formulas?

I don’t have the Product Data Sheet form from 3 years ago and older formulations but it looked like the one from a year or so ago except the viscosity at 100C was around 20 cSt. The Pour Point was about -51C and the Flash Point was about 270C just like it was listed in the PDS from about a year...

    Brad Penn 20/50 5k OCI 2009 HD

Really good UOA. A year or so ago some were seeing ZDDP not quite up to what is advertised by Brad Penn. Maybe a bad analysis or bad batch, don't know. But this looks great.

Thoughts on Shockproof in Harley Trans

I've been using Shockproof Heavy for years now in two bikes. One a 94 Roadking and the other a 05 Heritage (also in a 02 which I no longer have). On the 94 it made the shifting more crisp probably due to the high viscosity in an old tranny. In the 05 it works very good with only one observation...
