It's now cheaper to use octane booster than to buy premium gas

On the east coast, gas stations charge as much as $1/gallon extra for premium over regular. For example, if regular is 3.19, premium will be 4.19 For a 15-gallon gas tank, that's a $15 difference. But Walmart has VP Octane booster for 10.97 :sneaky:

Yeti wiper springs are awesome! Try them before buying new wiper arms

Here is a link to the Yeti X-Wipe springs, and you can order them on Amazon. They are shipped from Canada, and it took a week to arrive. Like most older cars, eventually the wiper arm springs get weak and don't push down as well as they used to. This is also why you can't use beam style wipers...

2015 Forester, oil used was Rotella T6 5w30 Date code 9CMFK2 Replaced with another Full filter and Pennzoil HM Synthetic 0w20 The blue ADBV was soft and pliable. I used it to prop up the media cartridge to take the pics since the media cartridge kept rolling away :D

Full 2-OSB002 cut open after 7k

1998 Forester, OCI was 7k, oil used was Rotella T6 5w30 Date code Y1M6KB It has a beefy coil spring, and the red ADBV was still soft and pliable but difficult to get off the baseplate (in a good way) I replaced it with another of the same Full filter, and Walmart brand Super Tech HM 5w30

Why doesn't anybody make aftermarket wiper arms?

The springs got weak, and Subaru doesn't sell the wiper arms anymore! I tried buying Chinese springs on eBay, but they were too big and didn't fit! So I had to put the old spring back on, which itself took a hell of a time, and now the spring has no tension in it at all :poop: I only tried the...

Who do you think made this Beck/Arnley timing belt?

I might replace the timing belt on my car since I don't know if it was ever replaced in the 25+ years and 150k the car has been driven (TB interval is 105k). I haven't checked the condition of the TB yet, so if it has already been replaced, I won't replace it. Of course, there's the Mitsuboshi...

    Intermittent P0171 on 2015 Forester FB25B

The CEL was on, but when I went to scan the code, it says MIL command status was off, which I confirmed after starting the car. There are no drivability problems and no other symptoms other than the CEL. It had been on a couple weeks ago, but I had reset the CEL. It came back on, but this time...

Best alternator for 98 Forester, not many good choices

My alternator is whining, so it will need to be replaced soon. The 98 is different than the 99+ models. It has a different engine (EJ25D), and a lot of other stuff is different, too. One of those differences is the alternator. Since it's a one-year special, there aren't many alternators...

Trouble adding coolant/water to empty cooling system 3800

I'm changing the coolant on a 4th gen Firebird V6 after replacing the coolant elbows. There are some slight differences from the FWD 3800, such as a non-pressurized coolant tank on the F-body, but it shouldn't be this difficult, right? When I first drained the coolant, hardly anything came out...

Resolved -- issue installing tensioner and alternator on 3800 F-Body

Never mind, everything works once you install the belt. Without the belt, the pulley on the tensioner rubs against the alternator, but this goes away when you actually put the belt on and the tension is applied. I started this thread before installing the new belt, and after posting it, I...

Kumho will start selling the HA32 all-weather tire in the US in 2024

The outgoing HA31 has been available in Canada and other countries for a few years. Walmart sells select sizes of the HA31, but in 2 weeks, Kumho's all-weather tires will be more widely available in the US. It officially goes on sale on 1/1, the very first day of 2024. The HA32 is already...

Why do Noco-style chargers have you connect the negative cable to the battery?

With a regular jump box, or jumping using another car, you connect the negative end of the good battery (or jump starter) to the ground on the car being jumped (an unpainted metal surface). But Noco chargers, and the knockoffs of the same style, have you connect the negative cable to the...

    Peak Dex-Cool is licensed again

For awhile, Peak had been too cheap to get a license/approval from GM, but now they are licensed again Not that I'd actually use Dexcool/Deathcool, but for those who have a GM car in warranty and needs coolant, Peak is a viable choice again.

Rock Auto now carries Calorstat thermostats. How are they?

Is Calorstat as good as OE, or are they just reboxed Motorad? :cautious: Calorstat seems to be an OE supplier, but that doesn't mean their aftermarket thermostats are good. After all, even Motorad is an OE supplier. If Calorstat is any good, then you have another good option at a good price...

Just got my Toyo Celsius II tires installed

Size 205/70-15. I bought them on Cyber Monday from DTD with a sale $110 off instantly. I brought them to a local tire shop for installation. The tires were made in Japan. Date code 5022 on all four. They feel nice so far. I just drove them around the corner, though.

Walmart's Black Friday Tire Sale ended before Cyber Monday :(

Walmart's Douglas tires were on sale for $58 each this weekend, but unfortunately, they went back up to $73 Size 205/70-15 for an older Subaru There are other no-name tires in the $60 range, but Douglas is about the best cheap tire you can get. I originally wanted the Nokian Nordman Solstice...
