Smart 0.8L CDI, 5600 Miles, Castrol (GC) 0W30

High Iron in this engine seems to be normal. Another smart owner who does UOA analysis is still showing 100ppm of it at 50K miles. I'll check the filter today as there was quite a spike in Silicon on this sample.

Smart 0.8L CDI, 5600 Miles, Castrol (GC) 0W30

This is my second sample with this car. First one was using Mobil 1 0W40. This sample proved better wear results but the oil thickened to a 10W40 weight. Last sample was also for a run during winter while this is a summer sample. Results from this sample: Smart Fortwo, 0.8L CDI, 5600 Miles on...

Is there any update on products to use for headlight polish to reduce hazing and yellowing. I've heard of a product called Plexus. Has anyone used this?

    Fleet Filter Purchase (BITOG Sponsor)

Purchased 10 filters for my vehicle application the other week. The price was right and cost about $3 less than the local Napa store in Edmonton, Alberta. The problem is that Fleet Filter will only ship with UPS which have this crazy customs brockerage fee to Canada. The breakdown on the costs...

    '05 Smart CDI, 5600 Miles, Mobil 1 0W40

I'll be doing another sample in the next month. I've also go some other smart owners sending in a sample to get some baseline. After that, I'll decide what steps to take. You never know, maybe this is normal.

    easy maintenance often overlooked

I like to clean the CV Boots once a year and spray them with silcone lube to keep them protected. It's a lot easier than changing the joint because the boot is ripped.

    Tire Sealant

I've looked at the specs on this stuff and the freezing point is -30C. This stuff is advertised as having a solid track record of 30 years. If it's that good, why is it not more popular.

    Tire Sealant

Has anyone used products that stay in the tires and prevent leaks and punctures. Namebrands of these are Ultraseal and Slime and can be found here: http://www.ultrasealne.co.uk/ http://www.slime.com/ Comments and real like experience with these would be appreciated.

Canadian Tire Full Synth oil w/4000 mi

I thought it has been discussed many times that the color and appearance of the oil is not necessarily indicitive of its condition.

    "Full Quality" filters?

I have a Baldwin Fuel Filter at home. I'm pretty sure it was made somewhere in the middle east. I'll have to check. It's really irrelevant where something is made as a determination of quality. I think my last pair of Nike were made in Vietnam or something.

    Is Break-in Oil a myth

I've always heard of "break-in" oil in engines when they come out of the factory. Is the idea of "break-in" true? If it is, how is the formulation different?

    XD3 0w40 ok for 3.1 and 3.4 GM engine?

BlazerLT, Thanks. I was at Wal-Mart the other day and noticed that the grades of XD3 other than 0-40 were not labled as synthetic. Are all XD3's full synthetic?

    XD3 0w40 ok for 3.1 and 3.4 GM engine?

I have a smart car. It recommends M1 0-40. How would the M1 compare to the Esso in this type of diesel application.

    TBN for M1 0W-40

I was enquiring about the TBN for another cause. I drive a smart car and the recommended oil must meet MB229.5 Spec. I don't know if the Esso will ever be approved for that spec but I'm seriously looking at it for my other car. I was in Walmart the other day and a 4L Jug was $21Cdn. What a steal.

    Motrlube 10w40 & 15w50 - Information

I never realized that a diesel engine is so much harder on an oil. I'm still a little new to this discussion so thanks for pointing that out Dad2leia. I have a diesel now, a smart fortwo which specifies M1 0-40. On the Motrlube, I seem to remember that before Jim got involved with this product...

    Motrlube 10w40 & 15w50 - Information

Ricosuave, I must say that I'm surprised by your results. I am just finishing my 10K mile run of the Motrlube in My '97 Mercury Villager and have not had any problems. This is my second 10K mile run with this product. I continue to have the increase in MPG that I have noted before and the...

I have a new smart car, the small two seat car you might have seen or heard about. It has plastic panels on all side. They are not painted but solid colour. Some punk took a key to the dirver's side panel. Is there any way or removing such scratches. What products should I use? Thanks.
