What Benefit Does Dielectric Grease Provide !.....

Thanks fellas. I smear it on my fuse blades with no ill effect. I live about 100yds from the sea, and you can watch things rusting here. Not the same, but have you seen this Canadian stuff, a contact enhancer with a difference. http://www.stabilant.com.au/stabilant_22_-_technical_notes.html...

What Benefit Does Dielectric Grease Provide !.....

IDMO, I am confused as well. This bit of infor is from the whatis website, and needs explaining. So the question is, does the silicon di-electric grease on the spark plugs or other electrical connections suffer "dielectric breakdown" when necessary to conduct a nearby current, but remain an...

Where can I find specs for the Fuchs GT1 0w20?

Ken, At least when you finish with the oil, you can fry up some fritters or something, assuming it is of vegetable origin. Love to see a UOA of this stuff. cheers Dave

Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer at Advance Auto Parts

Why would synthetic oil need stabilizing? Is it synthetic "oil-stabilizer" or "synthetic-oil" stabilizer? I am being pedantic? Cheers Dave [ June 04, 2004, 06:39 PM: Message edited by: DavoNF ]

ARX worthwhile in rarely driven cars?

Bill, The product in that Castrol Oil is a vapor phase inhibitor, which protects all exposed parts of the engine, ie it doesn't need to be covered in oil. Here is some similar stuff I am talking about, it may be availabe as an additive. http://www.vapor-tek.co.uk/html/vaporol.htm It would...

What happened to the theory of "no synthetics for xx miles, until the rings are bedded in". Doesn't this matter any more? Dave

    AutoRX in Australia

I reckon the Caltex Techron fuel system cleaner is good as a fuel additive. I use the Caltex Vortex Gold petrol which is supposed to contain Techron. Caltex say on their web-site if you use the Vortex petrol, there is no need to use the additive as a couple of tankfuls of Gold will clean...

    How important is Moly?

That's because Ford bearings contain no lead, there has been a few threads on this subject here. If there is no lead in the motor, the lead reading will naturally be low or zero. Dave

What if you dropped your trans pan....

On second thoughts, I think it is a fake. Someone sprinkled iron filings on the magnets. Dave

    Oil Drain plug wrench

Don't forget to oil the rubber gasket on the filter, or removing it will be a real pain. Better stuff to use is silicone grease, not affected by heat, and makes filter removal easy, or you can use plain oil with a dusting of graphite powder. Tighten filter by hand, and you can remove it by...

    fuel-gauge fouling problems

mojo, Let us know if you find out what it is. I am getting more convinced to run a fuel additive all the time now to combat "unknowns" in the fuel. We are still getting reports over here of some gas stations diluting the fuel with ethanol, over and above the 10% mandated limit. Ethanol can be...

need help: What oil does Ford Australia recommend in the modular V8's?

mracer, Put it this way, I would not run 5W-20 in an engine in Texas in the summer, regardless of what anyone said. Maybe in a little 4 pot screamer, but even then I would have my doubts. That is my opinion, backed by HT/HS numbers, and may not reflect the opinion of the management or other...

What if you dropped your trans pan....

Wow! I knew the magnets were in there, but that's a graphic picture of why. We need a BITOG photo gallery for weird ones like that. Looks like the trans couldn't handle all that A8 power. Dave

    5W40 in Toyota V6 which recommends 5W30?

They are both a 5W, so it would not make one iota of difference. A heavier viscosity oil would be a 15W-40 or a 20W-50. If they are both 5W-xx, they are both thin oils. IMHO. Dave
