Are all Fleetguard filters synthetic media?

Because the filter for my application (FL400S) is darn cheap.

Considering Brad Penn 0W-30 for the winter.

Gonna be lot's of cold starts and mixed driving for my 93 Mercury Cougar this winter, and this seems like a fine choice. What kind of an OCI can this oil pull off? I'm also considering Redline 0W30 and German Castrol, but the BP is the cheapest of the 3. The site also says quite a bit about the...

Why do people get all excited about moly?

I'm seeing people lately act like if an oil is reformulated with less moly it is no longer as good, or if it is lacking it, then it's an inferior product. I'm not sure I follow the logic.

    Afe oil filters?

Tried a search and nothing came up. Anyone know anything about these? http://afepower.com/shop/details_new.php?partno=44-LF007&&brandID=71

    1993 Mercury Cougar 3.8L. Not backspec'd to 5w20.

This is my current ride and it's time for an oil change. I noticed that Ford has not backspec'd this engine to 5w20...is there a reason for this? Does this engine like the thicker oil? I've been using 5w20 year 'round forever in everything, but I don't want to risk harming anything.

So I'm considering giving synthetics a shot.

My "new" ride is a '93 Mercury Cougar with the 3.8 liter engine. It has 120k on it. I've always used cheap dinos for short intervals but now I'm living in an apartment where I can't do my own changes, plus my driving now could be considered severe service, and I'm not sure how easy on oil this...

    1993 Mercury Cougar XR7

Just picked one up that is absolutely flawless. 109k, all highway. 3.8 liter V6. American racing rims. Every receipt and documentation of every oil change. The dreaded head gasket has already been done and it runs sooo quiet and smooth. I'm in love with this beast! It's replacing Buick Lesabre...

Put a bandaid on a headgasket leak.

Hey everyone, Recently I had one of my cars diagnosed with a blown headgasket. (1997 Plymouth Breeze) The price quoted for repair was higher then the car is really worth and it's not my daily driver so it's not really an important vehicle, just handy at times. So I bought some Bars Head...

    Mid '90s Buicks

Well, long story short my Ranger is dead. I'm very low on cash right now so my only real option is a local used car lot run by a family friend. Not a huge deal, as I just need a winter rat, as come spring I'll be working out of the US. He's willing to let me drive off with a car in exchange...

    Pennzoil Truck, Van, and SUV

Stuff doesn't seem to get any attention here. The marketing is a bit silly, but other then that, is there any reason it's not touted like YB or PP? I would think that since those are both fantastic products, this would be a best of both worlds. Search turned up nada.

Picked up some Citgo Synth blend

I live right beside a Citgo station and noticed today they had a huge display of the synth blend for a buck a quart. So I picked up some for top-offs. Put it in the freezer with a guart of Motorcraft overnight. The Citgo definitely flowed better. seems like decent stuff. The oil sickness has...

    Conoco Synthetic Blend

Being that this is the house label, would the additive pack and base oils be superior to other labels, such as Kendall or Motorcraft? I have searched for VOAs and UOAs, but have not really been able to assess this for myself. I can get the Conoco synthetic blend (as well as Motorcraft and...

    Kendall High Mileage

http://www.autobahnmotoroilproducts.com/...D2%26cid%3D6%26 I haven't seen any VOAs but this could be a strong competitor to Maxlife

Mobil Clean 7500 is pretty much impossible to find

Does anyone else have this issue? The closest place I can buy it is at a Mobil gas station 32 miles away, and they want a pretty penny for it. Plus I want it in 5w20, and they only have 10w30. Online I've only found one source and it seems overpriced there as well, before shipping. It's a...

    1999 Ford Ranger

The 4 banger model. I've had it for a little while and haven't really done ANYTHING with it. Just got a promotion and now I'd like to start paying attention to the maintenance and upgrading of it. Any experiences? Any suggestions for fluid brands/weights and aftermarket parts or upgrades would...

1999 Ford Ranger 4 banger. Any experience?

Couldn't find any UOAs referring to my particular engine. I bought it used at 151k and it has had yellow bottle pennzoil for awhile, judging from the documentation that came with it. (And the Performax filter) I've done one oc with 5w30 Maxlife semi-syn and a motorcraft filter. Is 5w30 the...

    Opinions on Valvoline Durablend

I drive a 4 banger 99 Ford Ranger a total of 60 miles non-highway every day to work (at one point up a very steep mountain) in northern New York, so I'm a bit concerned about my oil choice. I've always used Valvoline Instant Oil Change shops in the past and generally go with Durablend. This will...

K&N Gold or Motorcraft for 1996 Ford Contour

I've been using K&N oil filters since I first bought my contour with no ill effects whatsoever. Recently I was told that the motorcraft filter has superior filtering and has dual anti-drainback valves which I guess Ford requires for that engine. Now, as I said I'm having no issues and if it...
