Bit of a re-introduction and some basic questions. 2006 Subaru Legacy GT.

Yes, the reason that the screens are there is to block debris. And my senior master tech convinced me to keep the screens in after my turbo failure for that reason. But there were folks that had their turbo EJ’s maintained by the dealer every 3,750 miles that had failures as well. I pushed OCI’s...

Bit of a re-introduction and some basic questions. 2006 Subaru Legacy GT.

If it doesn’t burn oil, then Mobil 1 0W-40 is fine. My Forester XT would burn through up to two quarts on 0 or 5W-40 at 5,500-ish mile intervals so I switched to 10W-40 and it dropped to 1/2-1 quart every 5k miles. Consumption was always worse on trips at 70-75 mph. It was a manual as well. I...

2022+ Subaru WRX FA24F Oil Strategy

Yeah, we’ve been having these same discussions since SoA/SC dropped the full list of thicker oils back around 2010 and made the oil recommendations more ambiguous. I always find it funny when the manual mentions allowing “conventional” 5W-40 or 0W-20. Someone on the Outback forum did get an SoA...

2022+ Subaru WRX FA24F Oil Strategy

Presume you owner’s manual also states: In choosing an oil, you want the proper quality and viscosity, as well as one that will enhance fuel economy. Oils of lower viscosity provide better fuel economy. However, in hot weather, oil of higher viscosity is required to properly lubricate the...

2022+ Subaru WRX FA24F Oil Strategy

The manual also states that thicker viscosity oil is required in hot temps. I’ve had warranty work on my Forester (turbo seals replaced) and I was using oil with a different spec than recommended in the manual. IMO, dealers mainly want to see that oil changes were done on time, rather than...

My little interesting dilemma. To do an early Oil change with my 2023 Subaru Impreza or not

I would always run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in both cars to 6,000 miles, regardless of conditions.

2022+ Subaru WRX FA24F Oil Strategy

Unfortunately not. If you read the forum rules, you can only earn your BITOG wings if you run a thicker oil than recommended while you’re still under warranty. 😜

TCL and Sony are combining TV and home audio businesses, TCL will be in-charge.

Actually, Panasonic TV’s came back to the U.S. in a strange way. They’re only available on Amazon and a few high end retailers. LG’s OLED display along with Panasonic’ excellent processing. The flagship OLED is the Z95B with a huge built in soundbar. They’re also going to be doing a deal with...

    Motul 8100 X-CESS G2 5W40 - 2013 Subaru STI

I was wondering why since most people remove them. I did keep mine in after I had turbo failure. What tune do you have? iwsti.com is a good resource if you haven’t already checked it out.

    Motul 8100 X-CESS G2 5W40 - 2013 Subaru STI

Presume you’ve read this? https://www.iagperformance.com/content/documents/Engine-After-Sale-Shipping-Doc.pdf I hadn’t heard about the clutch pedal adjustment issue (#2 step 2) causing bearing failures. Are you running the turbo banjo bolt screen so that it does its intended job of blocking...

    Idemitsu IFG 5 0W-16, 5.1k mi; 2025 Subaru Forester Premium (FB25)

2.5% fuel dilution isn’t too bad compared to the turbo models, and those weekend trips generally do not burn off the fuel based on the many used oil analysis posted here with similar comments. Maybe it depends on the oil temp during those highway miles? The viscosity drop also isn’t that bad...

Motul Xcess 5w-40, 2.8k mi; 2020 Subaru STI 56k mi

The EJ has had its share of bearing issues. Typically one wouldn’t read too much in a single uoa. But I know there was a period around 2015-2016 (can’t remember for sure) that Blackstone was flagging used oil analysis in the 2.5T’s when silver was even as low as 6-7 ppm’s. OTOH, there were...

Subaru Ascent (FA-24 turbo engine) - oil choices ...

Those are not the only “other markets” for the FA24 DIT :). I don’t believe there are any current models that recommend a 40 grade, but do allow up to a Euro 30 grade. The last one listed Les Pleiades 0W-30. https://www.pleiades-zero.com/?page_id=342

Anti-theft lug nuts, do you use them?

Not anymore. Had them on my 2003 WRX wagon with OZ wheels and they stole the whole car.

    2024 Crosstrek 0W16 -> 5W30 ?

Do you have more details that shows that is the recommended oil for the 2022 JDM Crosstrek? I know the 2023 JDM Crosstrek allows Les Pleiades 0W-30 but surprised at the 5W-40.
