Grease for calpier slide pins and contact points?

I forgot to quote the post I was responding to so I'm just throwing this in here: "A big problem I discovered with the Escort one piece lower rubber boot is that moisture/salt would work its way between the OUTSIDE of the boot and caliper housing. The rust expands and consequently squeezes the...

Grease for calpier slide pins and contact points?

I had been using Sil-Glyde on the caliper slide pins on a couple of Ford Escorts based on a multitude of internet recommendations. Escorts have one pin completely encased with a rubber boot and another in a a bare metal bore with rubber dustcaps. I had routinely been having problems with the...

Building new computer, help pick components..

My only objection still concerns the videocard. I do not believe the 5700LE will satisfactorily last you 2 years - if you like your games to look pretty anyway. You can look at the VGA charts at Tom's hardware to see where it ranks, it performs nearly identically to a Geforce 5200U...

Building new computer, help pick components..

Maybe I just missed it, but you never really said what you were going to be using the puter for... If nothing too heavy duty, those components are fine, but the Athlon XP platform is a little outdated now.... If you plan on gaming at all you need to bump up a few notches on the vidcard. Nvidia...

    Ever Hear of Cenpeco oil?

My girlfriend's old man uses Cenpeco 15w-40 in his Dodge Pickumup. Yup, he's a farmer! Don't know anything else about it.

This coming from a supporter of a company that uses rebadged FRAM filters!

Observations from 5,300 mile trip - Delo 10w-30

Do you have a big tranny cooler? I thought that optimal tranny temps were something like 165 - 175 degrees. 145 seems a little cool to me.

I got 4.0L engine with 73K. What oil is good?

I think maybe I'll start carrying the banner Jelly became famous for.. HDEO all the way! Pennzoil Longlife, Mobil Delvac 1300, Chevron Delo, whichever. Great oils at a great price, they'll keep your engine cleaner and the 4.0 will love the higher viscosity.

    Modern Motor Oil Esters

Hey Brian, We all know you don't like esters. Hurrah. So you don't like Redline oil and you do like Mobil 1. Same here! It's not because I think esters are the devil though, it's because I'm not impressed with Redline UOAs and its high price. Unless you can show some clear proof that esters IN...

460 is a huge oil burner

Why not just go for straight Delo? HDEO oils have excellent performance in all areas except very cold weather, IMO. No need to mess with mixes. Have you ran any of the HDEOs in this vehicle before? I find that they can do wonders as far as leakage/consumption is concerned. If you're lucky you...

    Amsoil ASL 5W30, 16,515 miles. 1999 Crown Vic 4.6L

Seeing as most modular UOAs show very very little to no lead at all, I would be concerned about the lead reading in this report.

Reports like these make me very angry that our local Walmart stopped carrying Chevron Supreme! Especially since it sold so well....

    Transmission slipping only when corner?

There may not actually be anything wrong with your car at all. Sometimes the tranny pan is just not well designed and on hard corners the pickup becomes uncovered. Thunderbirds had a problem like this and later models had a deeper pan with a depression in it for the filter so it would be...

    Smokin 76 Chevy Pickup

I wouldn't hesitate to put in Longlife. My father has an 85 Chevy C30 (I think it's a C30, big box truck) that was leaking Halvoline 10w30 out of the valve covers and other areas like crazy, probably close to a couple quarts a week. Main reason for this was probably dry seals as this truck had...

    Xw-20 oils...

Not to be super skeptical, but hey that's my nature. Why would the thin oil make your truck idle/run rough? The oil was so thin that the engine was just tearing itself up with all that metal to metal contact? I doubt this. I could see a heavier oil reducing noise perhaps, but that's about it...

    Smokin 76 Chevy Pickup

I second Jelly's HDEO recommendation. Not only can these oils fix some minor problems with their cleaning and consumption reducing abilities, they're probably the oil best suited for every day use in an older vehicle like this.

    Fahrenheit 9/11 smashing box-office records

I find it amusing how whenever Michael Moore is mentioned on a forum, there are always people who chime in with highly compelling arguments against him and his works mainly (often soley) consisting of "fat stupid slob piece of crap". That's pretty much foaming at the mouth in my eyes.

Car going to be driven a LOT less....which strategy?

I would use the Motorcraft 5w-20. In my opinion, and experience, the Ford 4.6 prefers a thinner oil, or at least not thicker than average. My Tbird sounded no noisier when I ran the Motorcraft 5w-20 and UOAs here have shown good results with the oil.

    2 "?"s : Fuel Power and V-Power/Amoco ult.

One thing you should check is the PCV and any other vacuum hoses. My 95 Tbird with 4.6 has ran pretty well since I got it with about 50,000 miles. Recently it started throwing a p0174 code, indicating lean driver's side bank. Turns out the cause was an obscure piece of vacuum hose tucked away...

    F150 5.4L, M15W-30&15W-50, 5000 miles

Most of the ford modulars show a somewhat elevated iron level. I wouldn't put any faith in that report, look at the weird zinc and phos values.
