    swaping out 4l60e 2005 silverado...what seals

If its four wheel drive, there is a gasket between the transmission and transfercase. GM has the gaskets for short money. Use the gasket instead of silcone in this area. Get yourself a short 15mm wrench too.

    Alternative/equivalent to Schaeffer Series 9000?

+2 on the recovery of your home. I've seen it before and it totally sucks. I didn't read all of the above, mearly glanced at most after the comments started to fly, but I didn't see Valvoline Premium Blue in the there. That is a 5w-40 syn, easy to obtain, recommended by Cummins and has a neat...

    2012 Chevy 2500HD Maintenance and...

Thanks for the update on the Dexos! I guess I was expecting to hear that I should change the oil out at 500 miles and then follow the OLM with a blend of GC and magic elf juice. Maintenance has me a little worried only because it doesn't look like the front end has been greased. Also being a...

    2012 Chevy 2500HD Maintenance and...

...What in the world is Dexos??? I just took deleivery of my new truck, a 2012 Chevy 2500HD ECSB, 4x4 with 6.0L gas engine and 6spd auto. Love the truck! So my fellow BITOG brothers and sisters, I have a few questions: - what is Dexos? It is REQUIRED in the manual (the mainatenance topic is...

    MMO...What can I expect?

I just put some in the gas an oil in my truck, so I don't have any results to post, but I did notice that its more viscosus than I thought it would be. Seems like it may offer better protection for electric fuel pumps.

    ARX & Aluminum Engines

Thanks for the welcome back c3po! I didn't mean to sound so defensive. I guess I meant to show that in some applications ARX works well, and others, there may be no need for it. BTW - we sold that Beetle and bought a newer one. The 98 was built much better. I have not tried Neutra, primarily...

    ARX & Aluminum Engines

Hmm. Interesting thread. I'll try to be brief, but in my expereince, AutoRX has done a wonderful jo of cleaning up a disaster. My wife had a 98 Beetle that she drove for 30K miles (that she told me about) without changing the oil. She was one of the "the oil light must mean it needs oil"...

Airbound Cooling System in New Beetle

Thanks! Got a quote from the dealer and its about $1000. How hard is this to do in the driveway? How long would it take approximately?

Airbound Cooling System in New Beetle

These engines are know to have water pump failures and I'm thinking that might be the problem in the first place. I'm going to call the local VW dealer and talk top someone in service. BTW- the car has a little over 105K miles.

    Floating brake caliper operation

Performance may be the same or better, but I wonder about heat generation. I wonder if it equallizes the heat generated on either side of the rotor or if it causes an imbalance? A significant heat difference could really cause strange brake behavior.

Airbound Cooling System in New Beetle

For the life of me, I cannot get the air out of my fiancee's cooling system. Its a 2003 VW Beetle with a 2.0L engine. It all started when she told me that its over heating (light has come on while driving. I drained an flushed the system and could not get any heat. Worked at it all on Sunday...

    0W40 in a 6.0L

I switched my truck (GMC with the 5.3L gas V8) to M1 0W-30 and notice a much easier cold start and the truck idles so much better when cold.

Is color an indicator of ATF condition?

Ugh - thats pretty ugly! I was thinking dark, but still fairly clear. That looks a little milky. MAybe test it? I looks to me that you might have coolant mixing with the tranny fluid, or water getting in.

Blue AutoTrac in an Infiniti Transfer Case??

Auto Trak II needs some type of friction modifier to allow the GM "Auto" 4wd. Therefore its different than other T-case requirements.
