    My inline heater core filter....

.....not to beat a dead horse and no real brillance here. I used a 5/8 hose repair ends and fine SS screen from a strainer($10 invested). I molded it around a dowel using torch, hammer and vice. I crimped one end and made petals on the other to tuck under the washer. I expanded it inside the...

Progressive dilution work for cooling system?

...as effective as it is in a transmission? I am leary on flushing a 13 year old truck (145k miles). I has had two prior flushes, and two drain and fills over the years, all conventiona green. I have 3 years and 40 k on the last flush and there is some gunk in the degas bottle.

    Is the Maxlife cleaning?

Serviced a couple of my vehices this past week. Escape at 75k, two 4 quart drains (no filter to change) with Supertech mercon v. Every drain spotless....my ancient 2001 f150 I am going over as my daughter pulls her horse with it. Three 4 quart drains with Maxlife. Nothing too bad first drain...

A quick break from politic.......Cold Bluing Twist

My friend had a disaster .22 Savage semi-auto, left in a cellar to rust. Was gramps and he wanted to keep it. Normally, I would have stripped the metal and rust and polished the barrel and attempt a cold blue. Cold Bluing has always been marginal for me even when following directions to a T...

    Will Mercon/Dex III hurt polymers?

Playing with homemade gun lubes out of boredom. Many rave about ATF and synthetic motor oil, others claim damage to polymers and platics in frames and stocks. Not a chemist, so asking the folks who know oil/fluids best. Will Mobil 1 or Mercon harm plastic/polymer? Thanks for any insight.

    Rotella T6 or ATF as a gun/rust protectant ?

Which one would offer better corrosion protection? Please no "Use only gun oil on guns", or favorite brand gun specific oil. I am bored and just playing around/experimenting in the workshop on homemade gun care products. I have plenty of expensive gun care products on the shelves. I am out of...

PEA cleaner proof v. "Snake Oils"

Not starting an argument, but a serious question. I hear the love of Techron and Regane, and I have started to use Techron at oil changes. However, in my search here, I find testimonial support and the explanation how the polar esters work, but no case studies. Many condemn the solvents for no...

    Rotella T6 5w40 with 1 quart MMO

I may live to regret it, but I wanted the cleaning of the HDEO and MMO to cut it to 30 wt. I have a 12 year old 4.2 ford truck engine that I had to pull the plenum twice for plugged EGR ports. At 90K I originally replaced the gaskets and isolator bolts, and that took care of a material flaw and...

    ?'s for Kreen guys

Thinking of getting a quart as I am ordering more Kroil. Where is the info on cleaning through vaporizing? (I have the [censored] design Ford 4.2 pvc/plenum set up). It shares solvents with B12 Chemtool. Does that worry anyone? You would not go 1000 miles on B12 would you? I am just too lazy...

Advance Auto Parts Syn 75-90 gear oil...curious

Bored this morning while drinking my coffee.....so I went to AAP for gear oil for my ATVs Diffs. I usually get cheap coastal or supertech syn-blend . ATV's not demanding, but like the flow of 75-90 syn blend as I ride them all winter on the farm and hunting.AAP now has synthetic (not blend)...

    Can't find my grease locally.

Where to get Valvoline Synpower in tubes? I can get cans at Advance Auto, but have settled for the Durablend tubes (probably fine for my applications) As well, I am about out of Lubrimatic Marine grease I use on boat trailer and ATV bearings. Nobody in town carries it anymore. Great rated...

    Rotella T6 v Mobil 1 HM

Longtime Rotella fan, I have used it in everything air cooled and even a Gold Wing. I bought 5 quart bottle of Mobil 1 High Milage after good luck with it in an ATV that weeped Rotella from the lower jug. I am trying it in a Deere riding mower. (A Lowes special with the B & S) I like to keep a...

Why would TCW3 smooth out an idle?

I tried it for giggles. I have been fighting a cold idle stumble on my dreaded Ford 4.2 on the intake side. PCV, EGR, DPMS,MAF, ATS, TPS, all replaced or cleaned & resistance tested I did intake manifold gaskets and isolator bolts without the lean code this time, as I could not find a vacuum...

    Stihl ?

Hate2Work, or other of you Stihl fans, I hope to pick your brains. I have an FS55 trimmer that I made the mistake of loaning out to a guy at work. It came back with the primer bulb stuck in and he said it ran out of gas and quit working. I gave him the gas, so I hope he used it. He says all he...

MMO Experiment comes to an end........

Well I discovered the sludge problem with the 4.2 ford was caused by a slow internal coolant leak. Coolant loss increased & I had an external leak which I just repaired and it would still not hold pressure when I pressure tested. I had replaced the upper and lower manifold gaskets 13K ago. This...

I surrender MMO guys, Ford 4.2

One of my Fords has the "special" 4.2 V6. I have fought the dreaded 171-174 lean banks. I have done manifold gaskets, and all hoses. I do not think it is a leak. It revolves around idling in cold weather, and I have had success with replacing or cleaning IAC, PCV,MAF, But it is back. The...

When did MMO replace Auto RX as "The Bomb"

Kinda funny, but last year every post was Auto Rx, now MMO A serious question though Would you risk cutting 5w-20 with 20% MMO?

    Poulan Synthetic 2 Cycle Oil

Anyone have any facts or experience with this? Readily available, and would save time and money from driving to the Stihl dealer for Stihl Ultra syn. On the other hand I like going in and looking for new toys, and probably should support my dealer. TDI Rick tracked the Stihl down as a Castrol...
