    Best outboard you ever owned?

1990 Yamaha 115 Regular maintenance every year and virtually no major problems. Have spend less than $700 in 21 years in unscheduled repairs. About 30-40 hard hours each year of WOT to & from fishing holes or towing skiers, tubes, kneeboards, etc. My father-in-laws Mariner 175 EFI has been 10...

    Valvoline 5W30 SN/GF-5, 4628 miles, 2008 Avalanche

Yes, this is an AFM equipped 5.3, and yes they are having problems. Faulty lifters, leaky PCV valve seals (resulting in high oil consumption). Our 09 5.3 AFM, albeit an aluminum block, is scheduled to have the lifters replaced in a few weeks as they rattle like a bucket of bolts in the cold. We...

    2011 Sonata 2.4L GDI, 5W-20 or 5W-30

You're going to get a few different responses but almost pure highway miles with short intervals, I'd run the lightest oil possible for maximum MPGs. 5w-20 would be my choice.

Doubts About Honda Maintenance Minder System

All of Honda's 4 cyls are easy on oil, with the exception maybe being the K24. I have YET to see a bad UOA on a L15A engine. 4 quarts is a fairly large sump for such a small engine. Honda's MM is notably more conservative than other manufacturers oil monitering systems. Don't over-think it: just...

Got to drive a 495K Toyota pickup last night!

Needed to buy a mattress at one of the big box stores here, but it was raining so using the Silverado wasn't an option. My neighbor told me we could use her dad's Toyota. It was his courier truck. 2001 single cab, 5 speed. Looked pretty good from the outside, as good as a 10 year old truck...

    Anybody use Trugreen?

Got a pretty good quote from them the other day. Good enough to make me stop doing fertilizers myself. Just checking to see if anybody else uses them and what are your thoughts or results? Have 2 small indoor dogs and a toddler, so I always worry about adverse chemicals and such. Thanks for your...

    Green Filter quote

They recommend every 4-5k because it makes their replacement filter look more economical when you do a cost comparison. Anybody can make their product look cost effective with irrational claims about the OEM product it is replacing.

Does anyone use SPECTRUM OIL from Sears/Kmart???

    I don't, but this guy did: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2186256#Post2186256

    Honda Motor Oil

Why not start using Motorcraft 5W-20? It is dirt cheap for a synthetic blend. The most recent VOA of the CP blended Honda 5W-20 looks very similar to the Motorcraft 5W-20 SN blend. Once I'm out of warranty that's the route I will take unless something changes. FWIW, my local dealer charges over...

    New 2010 Honda Fit Sport

I love the Milano Red. My old Integra GSR was that color. I was two shakes away from pulling the trigger on a Fit Sport M/T, but my better half liked the Civic better, hence now we have the Civic.

Good synth. oil choice for 8000+ RPM engine?

Waiting on JoefromPA or OrdinanceMarine to chime in. Both have 8th gen Si with the Z3 motors. If you browse the UOA sections, they have some really stellar reports with PP 5W-30. On my RSX-S, I used Mobil 1 exclusively, mostly in 5W-30. I put 78K hard miles, including many with the Hondata K-pro...

    Craftsman- vs -Toro (Snowblower).....

I just bought the 421R. Was looking for the 221 because I wanted the 2 stroke, but the dealer was sold out and this is the last year to get them. I was leery of the 421s because the 4 strokes are all Chinese made Loncin engines. A quick search on the internet calmed those fears, as they are...

What fuel stabilizer is best for OPE & generators?

I use straight Sta-Bil in all my OPE year round. Can't find any pure gas... everything around here has 10% ethanol. Does just fine. I usually drain my tanks for the off season but have occasionally left them full and seems to do just fine. Last carb I had apart was spotless FWIW.

What Snow Blower Should I Buy For Home Use

I just bought a Toro 421R. Nice unit, would have preferred the 221 with the 2 stroke, but they are not available (and supposedly 2010 models are the last they will produce of the R-Tek 2 stroke). Starts up easy, love the paddles. Cleans right down to the concrete and has plenty of power. Light...

Switch from M1 to Honda Genuine??

Same car, 2010, manual tranny. I drive about 60 highway/40 city and about 12k each year. I follow the MM to 15% which is averaging about 5500-6200 depending on the weather. I use conventional simply because I have no reason whatsoever to use synthetic in this application. If I get less than 300k...

    Highest flow 'regular' filter

The filter is the LEAST restrictive part of a modern day vehicle's intake system. You will rarely see any measurable gain in CFM flow by replacing just a filter. The major bottlenecks are in the sound dampening chambers, tubing, etc, etc. Unless you are switching to a reusable filter for cost...
