    Do 2 strokers always smoke?

Hi motorcycle people! This is my first post in this section so pardon me if my question is overly basic. I'm planning to drive a Trabant occasionally. A DDR car with ~650ccm two stroke engine that makes 26ps @ 4200 rpm. Drivable around 2000-3000 rpms, 5000 being max. Compression ratio is 7.8:1...

What is the ivory colored grease GM use interiors?

It looks like some kind of silicon grease with light body. I need this for window regulators where a nylon strap slides inside a "C" profile metal rail. Looks like GM use this on many things inside, like plastic parts suspectible for rattles on transmission lever indicator. It looks never broken...

    Trailer radials for passenger duty?

My tires are 185/80 R13 P metrics which are getting harder to find. I can locate trailer tires such as Goodyar Marathons. After a quick net search looks like the only difference is better sidewalls and tougher construction against a possible ply separation. Given these tires are still radials...

    Maintainability of '66 Coronet

I come acrros with a classified for a '66 Dodge Coronet. Looks fair by the pictures, only those "exhausters" would have to go. Plain four door version. I need to cover some 750 kms to actually see it, so I think I'd ask to BITOG people first before setting my heart on this. Previously I...

Quick question about whine at 1st gear (THM 125)

Hi. This AT whines only at the first gear. Is this the part that I need to replace? link to part image I'd be grateful if anyone who tackled before with an AT rebuild could give an insight.

Bass thump at high speed. AT or backfiring?

Car has this strange very bass thump at a point above a certain speed. Ususally 55 and moderately accelerating, slightly uphill. Sound is like a firework at a distant place. Car suddenly shudders then resumes 5 mph lower fine (backfire ?). The evening when I was home discovered the AT was low...

Picking up a diesel monograde for an old gasser ?

I'm stuck inside the supply, price and specs triangle in this heavy-weight oils market. My car likes the thinner side of the 5w 30s. Mobil FE or Magnatecs are OK for me with frequent OCI but here, these cost just a shade from top notch synthetics which I'd refuse if I could. Luckily my car's oil...

Any info on the Elf oils?

In the last years engine never felt so fluent as with Elf's Evolution 5w 30. I had bought it as what was avaible and not overpriced in the shop. So after the drain at 10K kms I searched what I actually did. Well, it is thinner than the Mobil, claims %6 average (up to %9.3) fuel economy. Has high...

    Tungsten incandescent headlights...

Are these the ones that turns off sloowly? Going orange then red? Wagner produces them... Sealed beams. For hi-beam 4651 (without H) and 4652 for lows. Apart from the lesser light output what disadvantages could there be?

    Studebaker amusement

Not funny but thought I 'd pass this on this forum. http://googleearthcoolplaces.com/related.php?place=studebaker "Studebaker landscaped the park by keeping natural features; in 1937 the company planted more than 5,000 pine trees in a pattern that when viewed from a plane spelled STUDEBAKER."...

What would you say about this oil ?

I found this HDEO wich bears the price tag equivalent to a cheap a semi-synth. (priced between Castrol's Magnatec and GTX3). Here many HDEOs never list the gasoline specs they could meet. 5w 30 is the preferred viscosity per the manual, but my conditions also cover the 10w 30's scope easily...

    Intake air regulated at 131°F / 55 °C !

...this is according to the factory manual. Until last summer I was zooming about with sensor calibrated about 100 °F / 37 °C. Then I discovered this on the service manual and re-adjusted it accordingly to see what happens. Specs are very detailed like, heat door should crack open @ 100 °F...

Why would interior lights go hot? Any ideas?

As far as I remember dome light wouldn't go that hot. I replaced the 24 year old original bulb, the glass was dark. But still the bulb goes very hot in seconds so that you can't even touch it. If I wouldn't have removed the lens a year ago it would be burned by now. Any ideas for a root cause...

    Basic spark advance question

I've searched this subject but wasn't able to find some syptom-based know-hows. This is an '84 Chevrolet with 2.8 V6 (LE2), with a simplistic vacuum advance. There is a TVS, one vacuum delay valve and a "vac. registering valve" before the advance diaphragm. TVS (temp. switch) is new, others...

ATF choices for making high speed pinions quieter

hello there... This is an older GM's THM 125 which gradually developed a whine in the first gear. A former GM mechaic who once assembled new clutch packs says noise is the planeter pinion gears with a higher speed and there's no need to be concerned for mechanical reliability for quite a while...

ratcheting noise from distributor | need help to chase the arcs

...well, I discovered this noise from distributor, like a modern injector noise. A continious but very subdued sound, you need to lean towards the cap with an ear to notice it. I guess there is an arc patern inside it. Previously I had started to feel something like a misfire at high speeds, so...

Need an alternator: New BeckArnley or reman AC Delco?

Hi all... I need an alternator. How the BeckArnley is known? Is it a reputable, known brand? New BeckArnley is slightly more expensive than the reman AC Delco. I ask this because the Delco in the photos doesn't have the cooling fins and the pulley while the BeckArnley has both. I could...

    Honda Accord handling

Many "evaluators" think they are cool to bash all the soft springing, thats the macho thing to do I guess. Very little evaluates doing real 500 to 1000-mile road testing. So, I tend to take the word "tepid" from those as a plus!
