    Jeep 4.0 synthetic question

I have a 96 Jeep GC with the 4.0 engine, that only has about 86k. I bought it used, but ever since I've had it, I've been using 10w-30 dino, changing every 3000 miles. Occasionally I've put in 5-30 during an especially cold period, since I park outside in the Michigan cold. Now I'm thinking...

supertech trans fluid for transfer case

Actually, from reading on the Jeep forums, a lot of people use 5-30 or even 0-40 synthetic oil in the x-fer case that I have. In fact, on guy who rebuilds them only warrantys his work if you use 5-30. So, I used the mobil 1 I had left over and its shifting better than it ever has.

supertech trans fluid for transfer case

good point. I'm only going to need between 2 and 3 quarts so I wouldnt be really saving that much. I was just wondering since I have access to some ST trans fluid, but for the amount I need its not really worth it.

supertech trans fluid for transfer case

The transfer case for my Grand Cherokee requires dex/merc type fluid, and I was wondering if any one had any problems using the supertech type fluid. I've heard it didnt shift too great in transmissions, but I can't find anything about it in a transfer case.

    Is Purolator Leaving the Marketplace?

Purolator is Advance Auto Part/Discount Auto's main filter supplier. They also carry a limited number of AC delco oil filters in the stores but I think those are starting to get phased out as well. Being from California though, there are only a handful of Advance stores out west, but you can get...

    Jeep

Is there any specific reason not to use 5-30 in the 4.0 engine? I used 5-30 dino in the middle of last winter for one oil change because I park outside in the Michigan cold, and it seemed allright.

    DC ATF+4..or Valvoline Maxlife?

I wouldnt recommend anything besides fluid specifically designed for the Chrysler transmissions. They are notorious for being really picky when it comes to fluid, and the ATF+4 was created to fix the problems that were popping up even with the ATF+3.

Question - can you just stand by while...........

I used to manage one of the auto parts chains, and probably 2/3 of the people that would ask me a question wouldnt listen to my advice. Even when I would explain WHY they need to do something a certain way, they just didnt want to hear it. True, a lot of people working in stores like that...

    ATF question....type F vs dexron/mercon

Quick question since I can't seem to find any defining answer. When exactly did Ford make the switch from type F to mercon fluid? Some have told me the dexron/mercon is backwards compatible but I was always taught against that, and everyone seems to have different opinions on when the switch was...

    another german castrol question

This may be a stupid question, but I can't seem to find any info about the illusive german castrol syntec for anything besides 0w-30. Is this the only kind that is now being made in germany? or are all the different weights of syntec now the german type that everyone is looking for? I can't seem...

? about audi oil and change interval

thanks for all the help... this is a great forum. I read some of the analyses and I think I'm going to start with M1 0w40 and see how that works until the next change, then hopefully be able to find some of the german castrol around here. Now I just need to learn what all that info from the UOAs...

? about audi oil and change interval

wow... 6 replies in an hour and a half... thanks guys! Thats pretty much what I figured but I wanted some other opinions. I've had enough bad experiences with dealers and repair shops that I dont really trust anyone anymore. I'll probably just end up letting them do their thing at the service...

? about audi oil and change interval

Hello all, I recently became aware of this 10,000 mile service interval on my girlfriend's audi and dont really understand. I spoke with the guy at the parts counter at the dealership where the first service was being done and he told me that for the free service they just use basic oil, but...
