    5w-30 versus 0w-40?

^Thanks Gabe, for confirming the protection issue. As for the gas mileage, I definitely took a hit. But I can never be certain about whether I can attribute a significant portion of my losses to the motor oil (e.g. short trips, more city driving than before, lead foot, new aftermarket air...

    5w-30 versus 0w-40?

^^Thanks guys, it looks like I need to come back to the wealth of knowledge on this board. I got a hold of a dozen qts GC green myself some years back from another member. I noticed that GC was at the upper end of the 30 grade scale, and M1 is not far off, at the lower end of 40 grade. I had no...

    5w-30 versus 0w-40?

^Good point, I didn't know that it happened with the same engines.

    5w-30 versus 0w-40?

^Laymen say it all the time, for the simple fact that it doesn't match the specs of the engine. I've been told that it is unwise to deviate from the 5w30 called for, because the manufacturer spends millions+++ on researching it, so I should follow it without exception.

    5w-30 versus 0w-40?

Please excuse my bumping an old thread. I've been running M1 0w40 for 3-4 years now in my 2003 Lexus IS300 with 59k miles. OCI is 12 months, ~6000 mi. The reason is that I stocked up each time pep boys had a sale for $5 per quart, and because I read somewhere here that the M1 0w40 is an...

2-cycle oil as a fuel add in 4-cycle engine

LOL, he was thinking 15 gallons but forgot to type it.

2-cycle oil as a fuel add in 4-cycle engine

That's funny you mention the concentration, because in the other forum's thread, I specifically explained how I added about 4.5 oz to a 24 gallon tank. I also pointed out several times that this is a minuscule concentration of 680:1. Even then, several people criticized me for causing damage to...

2-cycle oil as a fuel add in 4-cycle engine

On another forum, specifically related to a vehicle with a Toyota 4.7 V8, I asked what they thought about 2-stroke oil in gasoline. I was met with plenty of criticism, mostly saying that it can't do any good and can only damage my engine/fuel system. I took all their opinions with a grain of...

How Often do you clean a K&N filter?

I'd get a Fram air filter at Walmart.

Pep Boys is a Freaking Rip-Off

I don't mind the lines so much. It's the inconsiderate people who place their shopping carts in the middle of the aisle. I would like to throw rocks at those people. Some Walmarts are usually pretty packed and I just can't understand how people completely disregard the rest of us. There are 10+...

What is a good interior glass cleaner?

No one mentioned Surf City Glass Cleaner. While I agree that technique is more important than the actual product, I found that SC GC doesn't streak even in direct sunlight while the others do. Some of the guys on Autopia swear by it, and it's worth a try for $12.99 for a 2 liter refill with free...

And if you confront her with that info in hand, she'll say, "oh, well I never actually used the few drops of oil, it was only offered to us." I knew something sounded fishy about the whole story, and who knows what her motive might be. Maybe she was incredibly annoyed with a strange new noise...

Perhaps something else was improperly done, which brings me to a different, but related, topic: People are often warned of places like jiffy lube and such for stripping the threads in the drain pan. How do you surmise they do this? Are drain pans really that delicate? With a regular socket...

    Would this really happen....

And allow me to reiterate: this girl is claiming that her cap was NOT completely off, just "improperly" reinstalled. To me her claim that all the oil exited through the oil cap (because of an improperly mated gasket or whatever) is far fetched.

Also, what about the low oil level light? I think there's more to this story than what appears at first glance. She claims to have driven only a few miles for a couple days, then takes a trip. 30 minutes into this trip is when oil was discovered empty? Is THIS really possible from an...
