Another stupid EV on our block...

I have a few friends who own electrics- either BMWs or Hyundais. I had an i3 on a 2 year lease and loved it. That said, for my purposes a PHEV is a better option- but YMMV.

    Comfortable Seats

I preferred the Mazdaspeed over its competitors for the same reasons I preferred the C43 over the M340i and S4; the Mazda had a scrappy aggressive attitude- a tight suspension, an overachieving powerplant, and a throaty exhaust. As a contemporary Car and Driver road test described it...

    Comfortable Seats

The seats in my Mazdaspeed 3 were very comfortable. I'm still disappointed that Mazda abandoned the hot hatch market segment.

    Comfortable Seats

I always despised the flat and ultra-soft barcalounger seats in domestic "luxury" cars. The worst seats I've had to endure recently were the base seats in my son's E90 328i. In contrast, I've always liked the sport seats in my BMWs. The seats in my Club Sport are all-day comfortable and have...

Vehicle you're looking forward to in 2025 (and beyond)

The brilliantly analytical posts by some of the more astute members in this thread have tempted me to sell my C43. I am frantically combing Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace as I am now convinced that there is a Biscayne with a 250ci six and three on the tree with my name on it.

2014 Challenger long term review: Absolutely terrible.

As I've mentioned before, I have a 1991 magazine that is a compilation of road tests from the old Hi-Performance Cars magazine. The fastest 1/4 mile time was a 12.5 posted by Joe Oldham's 1969 Motion Performance big block Camaro- with 4.10 gears, uncapped headers and slicks. Aside from that car...

2014 Challenger long term review: Absolutely terrible.

I had a 1987 535is and my wife had a 1997 528i; they were both great cars. I may yet nab an E34 M5 as I love the S38 engine.

It can also lap a road course all day long. It’s my kind of family sedan.

2014 Challenger long term review: Absolutely terrible.

Tell me about it! The M276 in my W205 C43 can only get the car to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds- and it takes a leisurely 12.6 seconds to run the 1/4 mile. It’s just a slug.

2014 Challenger long term review: Absolutely terrible.

I agree 100%, but different strokes and all like that. I rented a V6 Challenger to drive to Chicago back in 2013 and my main complaint was the lack of horsepower. That said, if I was condemned to driving a C10 as a daily I'd be looking for a 10 storey building so that I could jump off the roof...

    2024 VW GTI SE

I ordered my 1995 Club Sport over the phone- it could not have been easier. I really wanted one, and test drove a GTI at least twice. I couldn’t believe how adamant the dealer was against ordering. I ended up with a new Mazdaspeed 3, which turned out to be a great car. A few years later I...

    2024 VW GTI SE

Beautiful! I wanted to buy a GTI back in 2007 but my local VW dealer let me know that they couldn't be bothered with ordering a car to my specs. That attitude probably cost them at least 6-7 sales from my household.

Outrageous Dealer Add-Ons and Fees - When Will They Learn?

As I've said before, adding those idiotic flashing brake lights is an absolute deal-breaker.

    Quirky features on your cars?

On my C43 you activate brake hold by pushing the brake pedal harder once the car is stopped. Pushing the accelerator pedal releases the brakes.

How accurate is the indicated MPG in your vehicle?

Most of my cars have indicated 3%-4% optimistic; the most accurate have been the my F22 M235i and my W205 C43. On most BMWs you can access a service menu that allows you to adjust the computation factors, but the discrepancies never bothered me enough to do anything about it.

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

I ended up having to get the Getrag 262 4 speed in my Bavaria rebuilt. One of the previous owners had used hypoid gear oil and compounded that mistake by under filling the gearbox. The bearing noise got to the point that I couldn't ignore it any longer. That is the only transmission I've owned...
