Audi OEM vs Fram Titanium Cartridge Filter

Sorry for the extremely-late response. I haven't signed in since I posted this up. The first UOA is the one in question, and was from my wife's super-short tripped Audi Q5 with the 3.0 SC V6. Looking at the particle counts you requested, is it fair to say the Mann used here is a 99% at 40 mics...

Audi OEM vs Fram Titanium Cartridge Filter

Found another particle count from same 2.4 Honda motor from 2014. This was using a Fram Ultra7317 7,032 miles into a 15K mile oil change. I forgot to add the previous particle count example from the Honda was about 2K after an oil pan replacement, hence the huge difference. SUS Viscosity...

    Z-you were interested in particle counts: here's one from my Honda with Fram TG 7317 ISO CODE (2) 21/17 cSt Viscosity @ 100°C 8.40 9.7-11.9 9.87 10.20 9.04 NAS 1638 Class 12 Flashpoint in °F 390 >375 380 390 400 ISO CODE (3) 23/21/17 Fuel % TD]...

Audi OEM vs Fram Titanium Cartridge Filter

Z-Attached report from BS, first UOA on the car. I could hear the chain tensioner rattle at startup and sure enough, it had thinned out. Years ago when the kids were in college, the car made numerous trips to VA, but for almost all of its life, the longest trip my wife takes it on is about 7...

Audi OEM vs Fram Titanium Cartridge Filter

We have 3 VAG vehicles: 2014 Jetta 1.8T 97K 2017 A3 2.GO T, 49K 2017 Audi Q5 3.0 SC 43K I have always run Mann Filters (made in Germany or Austria), on each one for 5-7K miles: filters for the 1.8T & 2.GO are the same. Just for the heck of it, I used a Fram Ultra on the 1.8T for the last oil...

MMO test from “Ford boss me” on you tube

Hello Mola: I have the highest respect for your knowledge and contributions over the years, however I believe the chlorinated part of any and all engine additives was removed by the EPA effective 1/1/2017.

    CarQuest 0w40 query

I couldn't determine the SKU number, but the License #238 is the same for both bottles. The new Fram 5-40 & 0-40 oils are the same: no manufacturer approvals, other than SN or SP , I forgot which one. FWIW the CQ and Fram oils in these grades apply to exactly ZERO cars IMO.

    DRY-LOCK paint

Thanks guys--I really appreciate all of your quick responses. I will avoid the DRY-LOCK and extra cost, and use latex exterior paint like Mr Demar suggested. I forgot to mention, we do have a dehumidifier which doesn't turn on Fall thru Spring. Also have a French Drain which is covered over in...

    DRY-LOCK paint

Hello Folks have a question on DRY-LOCK paint, and rather than ask the guy in Home Depot, I figured there would be more expert advice here. The house has a cinder block foundation, which was last painted --with who knows what---26 years ago, just before we moved in. The white paint on the wall...

MMO improved performance, what does it indicate?

I have been using MMO in the crankcase since 1976. To put it bluntly: it works! I always leave it in the entire oil change typically to 5000 miles, also on occasion out to 7500 miles. I hope you purchased the MMO a while ago--like prior to 1/1/17, as we are not sure of the contents of the new...

    Ester-based oil additives?

I use LG Biotech in some 'problem' vehicles and fully endorse their claims of quieting the motor down. OP: if you are going to use any additive I would be using the least expensive HDEO or SN motor oil, like SuperTech or Travellers, etc. I do not think the extra cost of a good synthetic is worth...

    Another short tripping problem???

If it has the 5 speed auto trans, summary of the problem in that era was not enough fluid getting to second (or 3nd) gear. Fix was to add a lube route to the affected area(s). Problem was more prevalent with the V6 because both 6 cyl & 4 cyl engines used the same auto transmissions. FWIW, my...
