    MC - Synpower Observation

I have a 2006 F150 with the 5.4L engine. For the first 70K miles of the truck's life, I used MC 5W20 and MC filters. My only issue was that there was a light varnish on the dipstick. Due to the varnish, I decided to switch to Valvoline Synpower 5W20. I kept using the MC filters. Almost...

Lucas UCL/FP on a New Car?

Is it ok to use Lucas UCL or FP60 on a new car from day one or do we need to wait a few miles before starting these? Thanks. Jon

    5 Cylinder Engines

My wife just purchased a Volvo with an inline 5 cylinder engine. I know the Chevy Colorado uses on also. A 5 cylinder engine seems odd to me. Are there advantages to an inline 5 versus an inline 4 or 6? The only things I can think of is maybe it is smoother than a 4 and less expensive than a 6. Jon

    Volvo Factory Fill

Anyone know what grade Volvo uses for factory fill in the 2.4 NA engines? If it is 5W30, I want to change it immediately because the manual says that grade is only good to 84 degrees and it is close to 100 in Texas right now. If it is 10W30 or 5W40, I'll leave it in for a while. Also, any...

    BMW 5W30 vs GC

These oils are around the same price (BMW a little cheaper). The additive difference are that GC contains magnesium and the BMW oil contains Moly. The BMW may be group III and the GC may be PAO/Ester. For 7500 miles, I wonder if one oil would be better than the other.

    Kawasaki Oil Filter

Does anybody know which Napa Gold or Wix filter will fit a Kawasaki 15 hp V-Twin. It is on a Cub Cadet 1525. Thanks! Jon

    Antifreeze Disposal

Where is a good place to dispose of old antifreeze? I take my oil to Autozone or Advance Auto, but I've never seen a place that takes antifreeze. Jon

    Jeep 4.0L, Delvac 1 5W40, 4700 miles

This is a '99 Jeep 4.0L I-6 with 81,000 miles on the engine and 4700 miles on the oil. The first two columns are previous samples using M1 10W30. The third column is the D1 5W40. The oil filter used was Napa Gold. The results seem better with the D1, mainly with respect to the iron. Comments...

    Synergyn 5W30 - PAO?

The Napa down the street sells Synergyn oil. I'm curious to give the 5W30 a try, but I don't know much about it. Is the Synergyn oil mostly PAO with some esters or is it mostly esters? Jon

    Delvac 1 and the API

I was always under the impression that the reason people liked Delvac 1 was because it had a lot of antiwear and cleanliness additives. I also thought that one of the problems with an oil being API licensed was that the additive amounts were limited. If the D1 is API licensed as an SL oil...

10W30 Mobil 1 TriSyn SL in Jeep 4.0L

This is my first oil analysis for my '99 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0L six. I've used Mobil 1 10W30 in it since the first few thousand miles. I've used mostly Mobil 1 filters. Blackstone expressed concern about a possible antifreeze leak due to elevated salts. Since I've never had to add any...

    0W40 instead of 10W30?

My engine (4.0L Jeep) calls for 10W30 and I've been using Mobil1. Would it work to use 0W40, or would this oil to be too viscous at temperature compared to XW30? One thing I've thought about is that Mobil1 tends to be on the thin side, so maybe 0W40 is on the thin side of 40wt and would be close...

    PAO vs Ester

I would consider PAO synthetics to be the norm for most big name synthetics (the real synthetics) and it has been proven that they are suitable for long term use in an engine. It seems to me that Esters are used mostly by smaller players and niche (racing) companies and I know very little about...
