GoPro inside a tire, with balance beads

A friend of mine tried these in a Jeep with 37” tires. He said that once up to speed, beads work great. But if you started turning while at speed, they shook pretty notably. Also said it was irritating that after stopping, at every start the vehicle was out of balance until they settled down.

Are there any high performance models with CVT's?

I wonder if it comes down to size/pressures/materials and the dynamics of cooling contact parts when used in super-high torque applications. How large are the pulleys - 6? Maybe that’s fine for 150-200 ft-lbs, but let’s say we are talking 300-400 ft-lbs of torque. Heavier belt, larger pulleys...

    Real world pickup fuel mileage?

2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost. Stock lift and tires. I drive the speed limit or 5 over. Easy commute (I’m at my desk before traffic starts, so it’s a straight shot in), but I might also idle for up to an hour at a time if studying or working from the car in cold weather. BMS is disabled, which also...

What are you working on today?

Sons 4Runner. Oil change, medium detail and wax in and out. (Both of us working together). Son’s girlfriend’s Rav4. Rotate tires. Full detail and wax in and out. Probably the first coat of wax it’s seen, 2021 MY. (Both of us here too) Speed wash, my f150. (Just me, the stuff was out) Speed...

Interesting failed 2018 Nissan 5.6L video

I’ve had the same whispers in my head regarding my f150 with the 10r80. But I look around and wouldn’t want any of the other models either, and I enjoy driving it every day. There’s nothing to solve and it’s just rolling the dice to another vehicle. And mine might could last a long, long time...

    2015 Mazda3 I Grand Touring

I’m amazed how Mazda just rolls along right below the radar. Solid chance that a CX5 could replace our CRV in a couple of years.

Head Unit Recommendations For 2003 Suburban

Crutchfield for the win here. 2003 ‘burb won’t be that complex. I installed an alpine in my boss’s and it sounded beautiful, but of the 6 alpines I installed, 3 lost Bluetooth within 3 years. Therefore I’d look to kenwood - installed a low-end kenwood 2din unit in my camper and it also had a...

Max A/C = closed heater core valve

My 2006 tundra had a valve to quench the heater line. I don’t know the conditions under which it would close. Air was ice cold in that thing.

Phobia of working under a car on jack stands

Love putting the wheels underneath there if they are coming off. They are as thick as I am. I don’t give much thought if the tires are all on the ground. I might get pinned if one blew out while I was under. I wonder if that’s a thing?

    Did Amsoil changed Ingredients ?

That is impressive that amsoil could pull the samples and demonstrate this just for one persons request. Wow.

Ratcheting Wrenches - which styles do you use?

Some of my harbor freight ratcheting combo wrenches failed first-second use. :(

Tell me about Range Rovers circa 2008

I love the way these drive. Hard to get a wrench 2” below the surface of the hood. Had a buddy with one - had some wild driveline shakes we couldn’t figure out. He’s a professional Land Cruiser specialist - after 3 months he let it go, too much fuss. But, it was fun to drive.

    2009 Pontiac Vibe, Big Block

The vibe/matrix is a cool car. We test drove a manual version years ago and I thought it was the one to get. She didn’t.

    2018 RAV 4 vs. 2018 CRV

Facts? Sure. In 2015, CRV - 348,730 RAV4 - 315,412 I think you goofed, at least for my model year. :) Your point also has little to do with my suggestion to drive them both. They do handle differently, and that’s important to some folks. (And I’m a big fan of Toyota, probably over and above...

Is amsoil severe duty gear oil THAT much better than the rest?

For a while I used M1 and valvoline synthetic gear oil. I noticed that at 30k intervals, they both came out “thinner” when drained. Went to amsoil. At the same interval, it did not drain “thin.” Have stayed with amsoil since then with longer intervals, except in the rare case the diffs get...

HPL Engine cleaner / 2015 Volvo XC60 high oil consumption progress report

Late to the party. I have had 3 Volvos. One used a quart every 1000 miles. In all of them I gave them a half can of seafoam into the sump for the first few OCIs. This particular one, I ran half a can of seafoam for about 35k. In 15-20k, all of its oil consumption stopped. It didn’t happen...
