    Varnish Treatment

I've heard good things about Redline SI-1. Apparently it works so good that some people warn against using the whole bottle at once.

please recommend 2010 Kia OCI in months not miles

The reason I ask is because its probably now going to take over 6 months to reach 5000 miles (my usual OCI).

please recommend 2010 Kia OCI in months not miles

I know the standard milage that traditionally you are "supposed" to run for oil was 3000. Of course with today's engines and today's oils you can go longer than that pretty safely. For me I've done a lot of miles so I always just looked at miles and never worried about the "months" part of the...

thank you all - im glad i could rule something out and have a direction to look at. I will have the dealer look into it.

help identify possible causes for engine sound

frequency seems related to engine speed rather than road speed. the tick sounds much too fast to be a rock in the tires. and i only hear it on hard acceleration. of course it may also be there on normal acceleration too but perhaps its too soft to detect? Is this the "lifter noise" I've been...

help identify possible causes for engine sound

hello all, i've been reading in different posts that some of you bitogers use certain oils to quiet "lifter noise." I'm not sure if what I am experiencing is the same but thought that someone might offer a possible explanation for a sound im hearing. Its a 2013 Prius with a 1.8 liter 4...

suggestion for 2010 kia optima LX

Hello all, I'm looking for suggestions for my 2010 Kia Optima LX. It currently has 80000 miles on it - we use it mostly for local driving with some highway - I would say 75 / 25. I am currently using QSDefy 5w-20 @ 5000 mile OCI.

    0w-20 suggestion for a 2013 prius

One issue that is particular to the prius - the engine does a lot of automatic turning on / shutting off. Its not your standard car that runs the engine the whole time you are driving. It shuts off at low speeds, on coasting, at stop lights, etc... On cold days that means potentially running a...

    0w-20 suggestion for a 2013 prius

This TGMO you speak of is very interesting indeed. And at those prices it is only a little pricier than MO or PP. And if i can get case pricing it might become even more competitive. Has anybody tried both TGMO and some other OTC to be able to compare them in real world application? Any...

    0w-20 suggestion for a 2013 prius

I never knew TGMO was so good. I thought it was just a ploy by Toyota to make you spend more money by forcing you into the dealership. So how much does TGMO go for?

Oh and the planned OCI will be 7500 miles (compromise between 5000 and 10000 in the manual for regular and severe schedules)

where can i change my own oil

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm gonna check my local autoparts stores and walmarts to see if there are any signs prohibiting repairs. Makes for a convenient disposal of the oil once you're done. I plan on buying ramps and an oil pan. I've already got all the wrenches.

where can i change my own oil

Hey all, looking for some ideas. I live in an apartment complex and the rules specifically state that no car repair or maintenance is to be done in the parking lots. I would like to change my own oil. I've been going to this one place for a while but I highly suspect that they partially...

my car is a 2007 hyundai elantra. the specs call for 75w-85 GL-4 gear oil. Thats what the OEM spec is. I would like to use 75w-90 GL4 Manual Transaxle fluid from Amsoil. Is the difference of 75w-90(Amsoil) and 75w-85 (OEM) going to make a huge difference? They are both Synthetic and both GL-4.
