Seasoned A/C technician claims extra PAG oil is the way to go on automotive AC

Last night when I answered this post I had not watched the video. This morning I watched it and found it interesting that he recommended a new fan clutch. Here is a pic of the parts I replaced last week on a truck....

no engine oil dipstick by design

The oil can be checked electronically. Some cars such as Mercedes can be checked driving. BMW has to be in park, idling and takes 1 minute for the system to do its thing and report the level to the screen on the dash. Audi, some Porsche are checked engine off key on after sitting 2-3 minutes.

Seasoned A/C technician claims extra PAG oil is the way to go on automotive AC

It also depends on the size of the system to as you know.. A small system that holds 16-20oz of refrigerant is easier to overload with oil than a dual system in a suburban, Excursion, van etc that may hold 60oz or refrigerant. The larger system can take several ounces over the recommended amount...

3mz-fe catastrophic new cam seal failure

That's my though too. Tore on install. When I put a rear main in my truck I used a McDonald's cup to slide the new seal over the crank shaft without damaging it. Wonder if something similar could be done here?

Seasoned A/C technician claims extra PAG oil is the way to go on automotive AC

In AC class they said a system requires 3.5oz of oil per pound of refrigerant. Many systems do not have that much oil in them. If the amount of oil is marginal compressor life suffers and if there is any kind of leak without oil being added the compressor will fail quickly with catastrophic...

    Yesterday at the DMV

The DMV near me in victorville has to be the worst in history. I think they go out of their way to upset people and whoever upsets the most people gets in - n - out on Friday. You can ask 3 workers there the same question and get 3 different answers. When I renewed my license it took 2 days...

Used Snap-on PolarTek A/C Machine- worth buying?

Snap on does not make the internal parts. I believe robinair does. Robinair quality is all over the map. Some units are great sand others are nothing but trouble. Depending on how many cars you plan on servicing it might be a good deal for you. It uses the 30 Lb cylinders and those are...

How much per hour should I charge to fix A/C?

I found the sticker and 9oz is spec. It's really loaded with oil. Probably all the shops that tried to fix it before put some oil in the system and tons of dye. Gonna get all that out so I know how much oil to put in. It has these giant tires. Metric size but I'd say 35's.
