    M1 ATF Discontinued?

Guys, I saw that Advance Auto Parts had Mobil 1 ATF on clearance for $1.75. They were saying it was discontinued. I now see that Auto Zone has it on clearance for $6. Is this product (the Dex III ATF that has been around forever) truly being discontinued by the manufacturer? I've used this...

Anyone else watch Two Guys Garage on Motortrend? Noticed this...

There isn't some alternate spelling of Dexron that I'm unfamiliar with, is there? I was watching Two Guys Garage on Motortrend the other day and they were showing an episode dedicated to fluids and maintenance and I noticed this. Not once, but twice (edit: actually 3 times!) they misspelled Dexron.

2012 Toyota Highlander, 2GR-FE 3.5L V6, 5W30 Valvoline Adv Full Synthetic, SuperTech Filter, 7580 miles

I've owned this 2012 Highlander since 2015 when I bought it with 24K miles on it. I've always changed the oil and filter between 7000-10,0000 miles. I'd always used 0W20 up until around 140K miles when I switched to 5W30 synthetic. I didn't have a *reason* to do so aside from the fact that my...

Question about possible coolant in oil

I changed the oil in my wife's 2012 Toyota Highlander (with the 3.5L) a couple of weeks ago. The oci was about 8000 miles. Toyota recommends 10K but I always try to change it around 7500-8000. It has around 150K miles on it. The oil coming oil looked fine like it always does. I took it to be...

    Super Tech Asian (Red) Antifreeze/Coolant

If someone has asked about this, I apologize. I searched and couldn't find anything. I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. It originally came with the Toyota red LLC. After I had to get the radiator replaced, the mechanic switched to the Toyota pink SLLC. Since then I've used the Toyota SLLC and more...

    Son's 2017 2.0L is slowly losing coolant--a few questions

My son is in college and was recently home for Christmas. I changed the oil in his 2017 2.0L Escape like I always do. This time, however, I saw that the coolant was below the low line. That has never been the case. It has 53K miles on it, so my first instinct is to have him take it to a dealer...

Soliciting opinions...1 oil filter, 2 different cars

Guy, I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma that I bought new in 2002. It is my daily driver. My son has a 2017 Ford Escape. Both use the same size oil filter. They both cross-reference to the FRAM PH3614 size. I have always used Toyota OEM filters on my Tacoma (YZZD1). I've been using the Motorcraft...

    Advantage of ethanol free fuel?

I found a place on my way to work that sells ethanol free fuel. I've tried it and I'm not sure I can tell a difference. My car seems to get the same mileage and it runs the same.

Best grease for Genie screw drive garage door opener?

Guys, I have an old Genie screw drive garage door opener. About once a year (usually when it is cold) it starts acting up. I've lubed it with different things over the years, and it usually helps for a while. I've also sprayed degreaser on it to clean it up from time to time. I've used some...

2018 Kia Forte - low compression on 2 cyliners

Guys, My son-in-law bought a 2018 Kia Forte a few months ago. It only has about 30K miles on it now. He and my daughter were going down the highway and a check engine light came on and it started running rough. They took it to a dealership and they said that it had low compression on 2...

Daughter-in-law's cabin air filter was a teachable moment...

My son was complaining to me that his wife's car's A/C didn't blow very hard. This gave me the perfect opportunity to explain the value of maintaining things on your vehicles. There's no telling when it was last changed. 2007 Kia Sportage. PS. Yes, it made a huge difference.

Thoughts on OCI for 2017 Ford Escape 2.0?

My son has a 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0L EcoBoost. He bought it used with low miles. I changed the oil when he bought it, since I didn't know what was in it. I then changed it after 7592 miles and again after 5909 miles. The OLM didn't come on either time. I reset it both times. At 7500 miles...

    Idemitsu ATF TLS-LV

My wife has a 2012 Toyota Highlander that specs WS. I've done several drains/fills with WS with no issues. I was checking prices on Amazon today and when I searched for "WS ATF" I noticed that they sell 5 quart jugs of Idemitsu ATF TLS-LV which is a direct WS replacement. I usually get 4.5-4.75...

    Honda mower oil question

I just bought a new Honda self-propelled mower. It came with a small bottle of Honda 10w30 that I put in it. It recommends its first oil change after 5 hours. It recommends 10w30 which isn't a problem. However, I have quite a few quarts of Mobil 1 10w40 that I picked up on clearance for an older...

Honda self propelled mower pinion lube

I just bought a Honda mower that says to grease the pinion gears every so often. I'm curious if there is any more info on this. I have tubes of Amsoil NLGI #2 grease that I use on stuff. I guess that would work. Or would a lighter weight grease like aerosol lithium grease be better?

When did Valvoline quit producing SynPower oil?

Guys, I decided to take advantage of an online sale (15% off) combined with a $15 Pep Boys rebate yesterday to get a 5 quart jug of Valvoline SynPower for $10.98. Not a bad deal. But didn't they stop producing SynPower a couple of years ago? I was surprised to see it *was* the older oil--I was...

M1 vs Valvoline SynPower 75W90 in my Toyota Tacoma's diff?

Hey guys, It has been about 100K miles since I drained/filled my diff oil for the first time. I used Mobil 1 75W90 back then and it has been perfectly fine. It is getting to be time to do it again, and I was planning to use Mobil 1 again. I noticed the auto parts store near my home only stocks...

Are Ford 2.0L EcoBoost engines hard on oil?

My son has a 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0L twin scroll turbo Ecoboost engine. I changed the oil when he bought it (used) with 5W30 synthetic (yes, it calls for 5W30) and a Motorcraft filter and reset the OLM. 7500 miles later the OLM still hadn't gone off, but I went ahead and changed the...

2017 Ford Escape Transmission Service question - drain/fill or full swap?

Guys, I called the two local Ford dealerships and they want $200 and $235 respectively to do a full ATF swap on my 2017 Ford Escape. They hook it up to a machine and use OEM Mercon LV fluid. I always do drains/fills myself but have decided not to do it on this vehicle because there is no...

2017 Ford Escape - seems like some ATF came out of transmission vent - problem?

Guys, I have a 2017 Escape with the 2.0L. I was changing the oil and noticed what appeared to be a little bit of old dried oil on the bottom of the transmission. I didn't see any fresh fluid. I traced it back and can see that it appears it came from the transmission vent on the top of the AT...
