    Subaru Brand Oil

I got an email promoting Subaru dealer services. In the email the claim was made that: We recommend refilling with Genuine Subaru Oil at every oil change because it's the ONLY oil formulated specifically for your SUBARU BOXER® engine. It's formulated with a unique blend of additives, detergents...

He's Dead Jim! Engine Warranty Denied! Help!

Get a lawyer and the manufacturer of the filter involved. If the filter was spec'd for that engine, one of them should pay. Or file a small claims lawsuit against both and let them sort out who is to blame.

Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w-40 5.7k mi; Ram EcoDiesel 83k

I'm curious. Is the Delvac approved for this application. The oem warranty did not cover the DPF. The Mopar extended warranty did not cover the DPF. The extended warranty they gave us with the emissions settlement gave us 100K if I remember correctly. If the Delvac is not a low SAPS oil, will...

I'd appreciate it if you would share the email. Thanks.

    2019 Subaru Ascent - Castrol Synthetic 0W-20 - 3,409 Mi OCI

I completely agree. One is a BMW and the other is a Subaru. Both were turbocharged. If a standard OCI in a BMW causes a Subaru motor to self destruct, I'm shocked and a little afraid. I have an 2020 Outback limited XT. And again, I would want to see the metal flakes, just to be sure the service...

    2019 Subaru Ascent - Castrol Synthetic 0W-20 - 3,409 Mi OCI

I had a BMW 3 series with a turbo charged motor that called for a 10,000 mile oil change. I had the dealer do it when recommended by the OLM. No self destruction. I currently have a 2020 outback xt limited. I would appreciate more info, i.e. the UOA data to which you refer. This one was not...

    2019 Subaru Ascent - Castrol Synthetic 0W-20 - 3,409 Mi OCI

I can't imagine that any significant damage was done. Did the dealer notify her of the historic, but non-recall worthy, problem with the wing flap actuator on the hyperdrive? A silly dealer story. My 2020 Outback came with a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty on wear items, including wipers, brake...

    Insurance claims and OEM.

From your email it appears that your wife was not the at fault driver and the at fault driver's insurance is covering the repair. I just went through this in Missouri. So what follows is relevant to Missouri, maybe not Oklahoma. The OEM rider requirement would likely be needed if your...

    Best/affordable way to pick up a boat/trailer?

There are a lot of companies that will do that for you. From where to where and what boat and trailer? It seems to run about a $/mile.

    Cleaning stones?

There are tools made for the purpose. A dressing wheel is all I've ever seen. But a google search revealed a bunch of dressing tools.

    Out of control Tecumseh

I wondering if there is a governor, maybe centrifugal? How old is the engine? Disclaimer: I know nothing about this subject matter so please no LOLs. It just sounds like maybe the engine races the governor cuts what ever it cuts, probably fuel and then when it slows the governor opens the...

What if Metal Foil accidentally fell in

It happened to me. Not foil but the foam plastic seal on a 1 qt bottle. I can't remember how may oil changes, maybe the next, it drained out with the oil. No apparent damage done.

Lite white haze on red car

True red cars are the most susceptible to chalking. As I understand, the only option is to have the car repainted. I believe that red is the most expensive color to have a car painted. That is my understanding and I just bought a new red Golf. Go figure.

Probably the late 60s. Quaker state in an old Impala convertable. With the top down you could fit 8 people in the car. With that load, the wheels would flex enough going around corners to pop off the hubcaps. Oil was probably a straight weight, 30 summer, 20 winter. All as my dad did.

    New used bike, old filter

I just bought a used 2007 CB900 with 1,200 miles on it. The owner had the oil changed at 800 miles by the dealer. He said he changed it a couple of time since. He sold because he could not ride due to health problems. I believe him. Even if it has been more than a year since the last oil change...

2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i Oil Recommendations

I have a 2010 Forester with a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine. I purchased the vehicle new. I ran the factory oil for 500 miles and changed to Super Tech 5w-30. The manual for the 2010 does not call for synthetic. I went to 3,000 and had the dealer change it. They said they use Pennzoil...

    Are you like me ?

With you hitting the end of the oci at the end of your trip, I would flip a coin. Or, more likely it would depend on whether I had the time before I left. It's been a while since I had a water cooled bike, but I always followed the manufactuer's recommendations for coolant. I will agree that a...
