Oil recommendations for GM Vortec 8100

oil burning problem can come from a problem a lot of 2001-2003 earlier 496 engines had that involved a bad intake gasket seal between the manifold and the head at the intake ports on the bottom edge of the ports where the intake vacuum leak would suck oil and oil vapor into the intake port...

When would you use a Fuel System Cleaner?

Used to run a bottle of Techron before every oil change. I now only run TT fuel. Engine's run the same and my wallet is heavier. No need for them IMO.

New to me 2009 Silverado fluid change

Everything looks good. Buy a $10 drain plug kit and install it in your trans pan while it's off. Makes it much easier for future changes. Maxlife has a power steering version too. I am running it in mine.

    07 Chevy 2500 H.D. with 8100 and Allison trans.

My boat has the same engine. Mercruiser used GM 8.1l longblocks and added a larger cam for the 425hp HO model. Running Mobil Delvac 1300S 15w40 at 25-30 hr oil changes. M1 0w40 also is a good choice. The early 01-04 8.1's had inferior intake gaskets that allowed oil to be burnt. Later 05+ 8.1's...

When running E85, Land Rover recommends resorting to severe service schedule which cuts the recommended intervals in half.

Which oil is best for my 2011 Tahoe

GM spec'd a 6094M oil for those year 5.3's. Any dexos 1 rated oil will be fine. Just follow your OLM and disable AFM. I've had mine disabled and it's a nice difference.

    Cooper AT3's

I'm on my 3rd set AT3's on my Sierra. Tires perform great for an AT. All are at wear bars at 30k miles. Cooper prorates to 55k miles so next set is roughly half price vs new. I keep getting them due to this.

    Robust 0W20 alternative to Castrol 5W20 ? JLR V8

I'm running Castrol Edge E 0w20 which is the only oil that meets JLR'S newer spec. I plan to run this thru the warranty period at 7k/1year intervals vs JLR'S 16k/1yr timeliness. After the warranty is up it's Wallmart 5qt jugs of whatever M1 0w20 I can find and not worry about it.

    cartridge Filters

Our new LR4 utilizes a cart filter right on top of the engine. OEM LR filters are made by Mahle and pricey. $20-30 thru dealer. Can be found on amazon for $18. While pricey, no mess. No need to get under the vehicle anymore with the vaccum oil evacuation method thru the oil fill cap. Nice setup.

Oil for 8.1 Vortec in 12 ton Motorhome

My 06 boat Mercruiser 496HO 8.1 specs 20w40. Base engine is a stock GM 8.1 longblock. Using mobil delvac 1300s 15w40 at 25-30hr oil change intervals. Spends a lot of time at 4000-5000rpm. No oil usage at these intervals. Earlier 01-04 8.1's were prone to oil usage with light weight oils due to...

02 WS6 Trans Am. Which oil and filter?

Almost always ran M1 5W30 and a Wix filter in my 02 LS1. H/C car and always ran hard. Never any oil consumption. You can't beat the cheap 5 gal jugs at WM. The engine will last longer than you will keep it.
