No more Chevron at my local Walmart?

It's the same story at my WalMart, Chevron is non-existant. They do have a nice supply of Mobil 1 though, which they reduced the price to $3.88 quart. Castrol products seem to be big at WalMart's as well. The price of Pennzoil went up, it's pushing $2.00 quart now.

    Old member, new question

Hi guys, the site has really grown since I last visited. I come with a question. With the release of Mobil 1 SUV oil, I am considering running it in my Explorer. The Explorer has the OHV 4.0 (not subject to 5w-20 TSB) and has around 93K miles on it all with dino oil. It does not use a drop of...

Best (and easy to obtain) Conventional ATF

Mobil 1 ATF would be ok, it's full synthetic and meets Mercon specs.

    Refilling the Rad.

The procedure that's in my Ford factory service manual for "burping" the system is as follows: 1. Fill coolant up to the base of the radiator filler neck. 2. Run engine at high idle (2000 RPM) with radiator cap off until thermostat opens (may take up to 10 minutes). Make sure heater is on and...

    Ball joint boot busted!

In the future when you need steering or suspension items I highly recommend you buy Moog. They are built much better than stock units, and have a lifetime warranty. Of course, they also have grease zerks on them.

Don't waste your $$$ on Super Tech grease

Got my Schaeffer grease, and other goodies, from Mills outdoor today. I ordered Monday afternoon, arrived at my door this morning. Quick shipping for sure. Very happy, will buy from Mills again.

Don't waste your $$$ on Super Tech grease

Super Tech didn't last anywhere near 6 months for me. With grease, conditions in which is used plays a big role, as does the complex of the grease. This grease should have lasted longer IMO, the Explorer sees street duty only, no off-roading or anything else super hard on suspension items...

Don't waste your $$$ on Super Tech grease

I got the #274 because it gets rather cold in Cincinnati in the winter, and it has a better temp range than the #221. It was acutally reading some of your old posts Ken that help me settle on the #274 as my "all year" grease. I ordered the #221 just for kicks, I was ordering other stuff...

Don't waste your $$$ on Super Tech grease

I have been using Super Tech Moly lithium grease as my main chassis lube for several months now, and I must say I'm very disappointed in it. I used it to grease the lower ball joints on my Ford Explorer, and it didn't hold up well. I noticed yesterday the balljoints were making a...

    redline motorcraft...reconmend mercon V

Mobil 1 ATF is NOT Mercon V approved, it's regular Mercon only. I'm using Pennzoil Mercon V, seems to be working well. If your on a budget, Coastal should be fine. What prices are they quoting you for Motorcraft Mercon V? It can be ordered through Advance Auto Parts (or Checker, Parts America)...

    Reliable Tire Gauge

I have an Accutire gauge I got for Christmas a few years ago, I don't like it! It's rather difficult to use, if you have hit it spot on for it to read. It's annoying. I've since put it on the shelf and went back to my trusty dial gauge.

    Ordering from Tim Mills

Guess that takes care of that. I only have American Express. Thanks for the info.

    Ordering from Tim Mills

I got a few quick questions, I read that Mills Outdoor charages a $10 handling fee for orders under $40. Is this true? Oh, and does anyone know if Tim takes American Express? Thanks!

    Redline D4 (Mercon V application)

Mercon V is a spec set fourth by Ford motor company. Redline, and all other companines, pay Ford a license fee for using the name on thier products IF the product meets Ford's specs. So, no, your incorrect. Oil companies don't simply slap a Mercon V label on a product that does not meet the...

    wal mart

penzdude, I have the same problem at WalMart here in Cincinnati. No Chevron supreme 5w-30 at all, not even a shelf tag for it. They had all the 10w-30 and 10w-40 you wanted. According to the manager, they are no longer stocking the Chevron 5w-30. They had no Halvoline either. Very limited...

No more Chevron in Cincy, perhaps 5w-20?

There is exactaly 1 Chevron station local to me. "Local" is about 30 miles away in Florence Kentucky. It's also $3.00/quart. It's a nice oil, but it's not worth $3.00/quart IMO. I guess I could run Mobil 1 for winter, I have a new jug in my garage. My only concern is, the Explorer has been on...

No more Chevron in Cincy, perhaps 5w-20?

Just looked at the Schaeffers 5w-30 numbers, it does not flow any better than the Pennzoil dino.

No more Chevron in Cincy, perhaps 5w-20?

I think the TSB you refering to is on the 4.0 SOHC V6. That engine still requires 5w-30. I have the OHV. Pushrod, old school for me. I'm looking at my options. I was planning on ordering some Schaeffers grease anyway, so maybe I'll get 5 quarts of the 5w-30 blend and run it for winter.

No more Chevron in Cincy, perhaps 5w-20?

To my knowledge, there has been no update on this engine to 5w-20. Pennzoil is available just about everywhere, and seems to be a good choice. I've been reading, and it even seems to flow well in the cold.

No more Chevron in Cincy, perhaps 5w-20?

It's hard for me to believe too, Mystic. This particular WalMart always carried Chevron 5w-30, now, nothing. Not even a tag on the shelf for it. I was disappointed after my chat with the manager. We don't have Checker Auto parts here, only Advance Auto, Autozone, Pepboys and Napa. None of which...
