    snowblower burning oil

I also have a Tecumseh Sno King that was exhibiting the red muffler glow. I found (via tiny tach) that the engine was over revving. Governor adjustment brought rpm’s back to normal. Glow disappeared. 0W-40 for me also.

    Old Craftsman Chainsaw

Yup, that’s a Poulan 25D labeled as Craftsman. I have one also. It’s a hard working little dog and have cut a LOT of wood with it. Has no safety features and is loud as a cob, but starts and runs great. Has a point ignition but is generally very reliable. These are great little saws. Mix mine at...

"Quiet" performance towing muffler for 2008 Silverado 5.3

As a guy who owns / has owned 2 Silverados and 2 Suburbans (all with 5.3), I towed moderately heavy with all of these. I used several aftermarket exhaust including Borla, Flowmaster, Magnaflow and various no-name mufflers. if you want quiet, none of the aftermarket fill that bill. The Borla was...

First Transmission Fluid Change at High Mileage (100,000+)?

I just finished a ATF cooler line flush on a Dodge Avenger first change. Right at 101 K miles. This is the infamous 62TE transmission using Supertech ATF+4 fluid. Everything is just fine, no issues to report.

Has blind spot monitoring made radar detectors ineffective?

The State of Wisconsin has six (6) Cessna 172 that are equipped for speed enforcement. They are used often all over the state.Got my buddy on a Honda 900 RR leaving Elkhart Lake rece track at a good clip. When the sign says ”speed enforced by aircraft” they aren’t kidding.

Great synthesizers use in a song

Some might remember that the first ARP 2600 synthesizer was introduced in 1971 it was the first to place a keyboard on cable not in a console. It was used to gteat effect by Edgar Winter in ”Frankenstein” who found a way to extend the cables. Nobody, I mean nobody was doing that in 1973. He was...

Very dissapointed in ariens snowblower build quality.

I have owned several Ariens snowblowers over the years. Here in WI we get to test them regularly. I have found all that I owned have been well built, heavy duty and utterly reliable. My current ST 824 is a beast. I consider them the best blower on the market.

    Solid ROLLER lifter oil

I have a 496 BBC in my 66 Chevelle. Very similar combo to yours, just a touch more compression. TH 400 w/ 4:10. When I ran a flat tappet in it I used Rotella 15W-40 with ASL Camguard added (great stuff BTW). When I freshened it with a roller cam 4 years back I now run the same Rotella 15W-40...

    RIP General Yeager

I saw him speak at EAA Oshkosh about 15 years ago. Very interesting guy. Told the story about shooting down a ME-262 jet over Germany In a P51D. Couldn’t catch the jet in level flight, but followed him to his base airfield and hit him when he slowed down. Continued down the runway of the German...

2018 Ford F150 supercrew 4x4 with the 3.3 liter engine

I have a company F150 that has the 3.3. It is a bit of a pooch performance wise, however I have a lead foot. My BIL feels that it’s performance is fine. Very reliable and fair gas mileage considering. It will tow a 18’ fishing boat fine, burns no oil. The 5.0 or eco boost will smoke it in a drag...

    MAXLIFE ATF

I have had several velvet drives apart. They are fairly simple inside, consisting of a gerotor front pump and a F and R clutch pack. It only develops a very low 100 psi. Also a fan of Maxlife, it should work fine, did you confirm fluid level ?

Isn’t the split master cylinder on all modern vehicles supposed to prevent a complete loss of braking ? Either F/R or diagonal split ?

Top Fuel Piston and Rod Assembly

I once had a top fuel crew member explain to me why the pistons were replaced so often (they looked good to me as this one does). He stated that the very high combustion forces actually press the dome of the piston down, causing the upper ring land to close up. It has to be replaced before the...

Oil for 81’ 383 stroker engine

On my big block 496 stroker (roller cam).I use either Rotella 15-40 or Supertech 15-40 and annual changes. Works just great.

    Amusing or ridiculous personalized plates

I used to have TRIK 69 on my Corvette for 4 or 5 years, then the State of WI decided it has sexual overtones and refused to renew it.
