    98 FRONTIER NOISE

The KA24DE does not have lifters. The KA24SE does. Both of these engines go over 200k miles with ease, so I'm not sure how you claim they suck. Do you work at Regal? [ February 19, 2004, 09:54 PM: Message edited by: RussellA ]

Finally got the Auto-Rx test pics up (the compression test too)

That's a big relief! I currently have a foot stomping 2 year old.

Best oil for 1990 Nissan 2.4L

I've got a 90 240sx, original owner. I believe yours is the same single cam 12 valve. I find if you go too thick it I get rocker or chain noise. I once tried 15w50 M1, but was too thick for good flow to the heads. I ran mostly mobil 10w-30 in it for the last 13 years, and always one of the M1s...

    Oil smells like gas...

Does it by chance have a mechanical fuel pump? Years ago had a mechanical fuel pump go bad and dump ALOT of gas in my oil.

Is Toyota Sienna a 'sludge monster'?

Definitely a sludgemonster. Sienna is the worse of all because of the additional load on the engine and the tighter therefore hotter engine compartment. I wouldn't buy one used without having a mechanic pull the front valve cover regardless of what maintenance records they may have. A baffle...

    M1 5W30, Infiniti G35 3.5L V6, 7,671 miles

If it was my car I would send this analysis and 10 bucks to Dyson Analysis and get Terry's insight on this. Terry most likely will have other experiences with this engine and can point you in the right direction. I would not be happy with these results and the oil consumption you are experiencing.

    What is most 'Turkey' oil?

When I first saw this, I thought you were going to ask what it the best oil to FRY a turkey in (for thanksgiving). I was ready to jump in and suggest PEANUT.

Iffy Lube Incompetence. . . Unreal!!

I had the same thing years back with the first filter change on a nissan. Filter was really torqued on there. Broke several filter wrenchs just like you. I however wasn't bothered by "nicking" the filter. I drove a large screwdriver right thru the filter and turned it a 1/4 of a turn. Oil of...

    Coolant and Distilled Water

As someone who has had a history of kidney stones I have to disagree. It hurts, it hurts like you wouldn't believe! FYI most kidney stones and all of mine are calcium oxalate.

    Used GC not happy

Also they are much much quieter than semi-metalic pads. Actually raybestos markets theirs under the "quiet stop" or QS name.

Sick of consuming synthetic oil, thinking about switching back.

I have an older car that was starting to use M1 10w30 at a pretty good rate. I think it was less the fact it was synthetic, and more the fact it was an oil that was near a 20w. I switched to M1 0w40 and it seems the to be much better.

Screeeech!! My car won't shut up!!!

Get a spray bottle with water, or even a little soapy water. Start spraying tensioner pulleys and stuff like that and see if you can make it stop. It won't stay stopped, but you might be able to isolate it.

I think my '99 Sienna has sludge...Is Auto-RX my best bet?

You need a double platinum plug. That's where BOTH the center electrode and side electrode are platinum. Has something to do with the polarity of the spark being opposite on the back cylinders from the front cylinders, because one coil generates spark for a front and back cylinder but of...

    Toyota V6 Sludge Prevention/Maintenance

Do an oil analysis, use blackstone with the Dyson Labs interpretation, and Terry Dyson will give you all the secrets on keeping this engine healthy. I own a 99 Avalon. Currently my path for keeping this car healthy is Redline 5w30 Change PVC valve every 10K (or at least check every oil change)...

Move the battery from engine bay to trunk

I would be a little worried about the hydrogen generated by the battery when it charges. Does that trunk have enough ventilation?

Any spin-on oil filters on the market that are better than Toyota oil filter?

The Genuine Toyota filters made by denso say "made in Japan" on the box, and say "denso" on the filter itself.

    Synthetic 5W-30 vs 10W-30 in 1998 Camry

Do a good search on toyota v6 on this site. I'm now of the opinion that at least for this particular engine Redline 5w30 is the way to go .
