    Synthetic in a 1976 Chevy 350

Using conventional motor oil with yearly change intervals would be just fine.

    F150 w/outhouse

That is an x-ray darkroom. This is very commonly used on pipeline construction projects. You wouldn't last in that steel box without the air conditioning. That pickup has to be a 250/350.

My 1st oil change was chevron 5w-30 (good or bad?)

Most don't stock sufficient quantities of 5w20 Chevron, but it does exist.

    Rotella in a Ford 300 I6

Why are you wanting such a thick oil on a fresh rebuild? A 10w30 would do fine in this engine.

    havoline motor oil (old formula)

The old formula Havoline is an excellent conventional motor oil. You may find others that say different, but it is definitely on par with Castrol GTX.

My town is getting an O'Reiley's

O'Reilly is a much better store than AutoZone in the way that they will actually wait on the customer. At the AutoZone they will answer the phone before dealing with a customer standing in front of them.

Any difference between Wix and NAPA Gold?

Napa Gold oil filters are about $6 retail here. At O'Reily Wix is $5. Online Napa Gold is about $3.50

what does the HD in HD30 mean?

It means it has detergents. The HD is just to distinguish it from non-detergent.

Castrol GTx good for engine requiring API SG?

The newer specification oils go in order from your SG all the way to SM. The second letter increases through the alphabet for newer specs. The SM is probably what GTX is spec'ed at right now. SM supercedes SG an will perform fine.

Would you use a FRAM filter if they were free?

I used them for over a decade before seeing the pics posted here at BITOG. The pictures changed my mind on brands to purchase, but I never experienced a failure using Fram. If you've got some free ones, send them over! BTW, since seeing the cut-open pics, I swiched to Napa Gold. They are the...

high mileage motor oil No starburst symbol

The starburst symbol cannot be found on heavier weight oils. What is important is the API "Donut" on the back. If it doesn't have that, find a different brand.

    Colt .45

If it was a Colt model 1991, then yes this price ($400) is reasonable for about 5 years ago. It is also reasonable for a used model. I purchased a like-new Colt 1991 for $550, and it shoots FMJ perfectly. (A model 1991 is basically the same as a 1911, just different markings.)

    fleetfilter.com raised their prices

That is too bad. I purchased a couple of cases of oil filters from your establishment in December, still need to get air filters. How about dealing in regular Wix? They are the same filter, and usually cheaper at other retail outlets then the Napa Gold.

A good name dino 10w30 should work fine.

    4K OCI

My previous employer services their fleet of pickups at 4K OCI's. They sell them at 175,000 miles. I can't remember any engine failures. Go for it.

    Chevy 2500 or Ford F250?

I would recommend either brand of pickup. They both would give you years of service if maintained properly. The V10 Ford and 8.1LV8 Chevy are both gas hogs. If you don't tow often, consider a smaller engine. Test drive both, go with the one you like best.
