New to me 2004 Jeep Wrangler with less than 24,500 miles

I use Mobil 1. I have no oil questions or issues. :) Way back in a previous lifetime (think 1970s) I worked for Mobil oil in a labratory setting and saw how good that oil was.

New to me 2004 Jeep Wrangler with less than 24,500 miles

Thanks for the oil recommendation. That will make it easy. Yeah, this one is an automatic (my arthritis precludes a 5 speed in a Wrangler TJ) and very surprisingly has no rust. I've owned a 1999 and 2002 previously and well know the rust issues. I'm not an off roader (74 years old) and have...

New to me 2004 Jeep Wrangler with less than 24,500 miles

I plan to purchase this Jeep on Sunday. 21 years old with 24,386 miles. Has no leaks at all presently. 4.0 litre straight six, OEM recommendation is 10W-30 in summer and 5W-30 in winter. Original owner was a UPS pilot that parked it at the airport and flew packages around the world. I've...

Non detergent oils in gearboxes, etc.

We have several pump applications with gearboxes and bearing cases where the manufacturer specifies using non detergent oil. I can't get a straight answer as to why. Can anyone explain why this is recommended for these non combustion applications? Is it OK to use a detergent oil anyway? All of...
