    Bitcoin for the win!

this post is actually true. as some of you might know, bitcoin is just one type of digital currency but there are others (litecoin, etc). if you wanted to, you could create your own using open source software. whether or not anyone would have interest in it is another story. however, having...

    any hvac/heat pump experts here?

just to close this thread. it was low on refrigerant. too low for heat cycle to work, but just high enough for cooling to work. cooling would have started to short cycled too as more refrigerant was lost over time.

    any hvac/heat pump experts here?

i have a 7 year old carrier heat pump. tonight was the first night cold enough to turn heater on (about 40 outside). by chance, i happened to be near the outdoor unit when it came on. it turned on and fan spun for about 10 seconds then shut off for 5 seconds then back on, etc. i then turned...

rotors : min thickness vs discard thickness

i raise this issue because my bmw dealer is refusing to replace my rotors even though they are below the min. number stamped on the rotor. they acknowledge this and also acknowledge that i am still under their maint. contract. however, they claim that bmw will not replace rotors, even those...

rotors : min thickness vs discard thickness

Throt, you are implying that if a rotor is under the min. thickness that as long as it doesn't 'act up', it is still safe to drive. but it seems to me that there has to be a value at which it could fail (because of heat, etc) and must be replaced. That value should be a known thing. right?

rotors : min thickness vs discard thickness

i think that all rotors have stamped on them a minimum thickness. i believe that is the point at which that rotor can no longer be cut. however, isn't there a measurement at which a rotor is unsafe? i thought that was called the discard thickness but it seems some people use it as the cut...

    2014 ram 1500 - battery saver mode

yes i was driving slow at the time, outside temperature was low 80's. yes it is an automatic. however, everything is stock so you would hope that ram would design the charging system to handle this case. the bad thing is once in this mode, you have to turn off the vehicle and then restart it to...

    2014 ram 1500 - battery saver mode

i guess i should say that this battery saver mode is a chrysler thing. i believe it is meant to protect the battery or to make sure you can start the vehicle at least one more time.

Differential fluid leaking into rear drum

so it turned out to be the wheel bearing making the noise. the seal was obviously leaking as well. i believe the noise started long before the leak so in this case i think the bad wheel bearing took out the seal, but who knows.

Differential fluid leaking into rear drum

I also have a slight noise that tracks wheel speed not rpm. Not a typical bearing noise though. I tried pushing and pulling on the wheel and did not find any obvious ply, but who knows. I want to replace shoes now but not much point unless leak is extremely slow. Can't get seal/bearing done...

Differential fluid leaking into rear drum

I have a 2002 toyota tundra v8, 2wd @ 185k miles. Today I decided to check and clean my rear brakes. Passenger side was fine. Driver side drum was coated in gear lube. The leak must be small as the differential fluid level was fine and the fluid never made it out of the drum to the wheel/tire...
