    30+ oil brands later....

After testing 30+ oil brands and grades, I determined that PYB 10w30 and PUP 10w30 provided the smoothest and quietest operation in my Subaru but the Delo 15w30 I have in it now is impressive. The engine is more smooth and quiet at hot idle than ever before after 2300 miles. Delo 15w30 runs much...

    Pennzoil Yellow Bottle 10w30

After 30+ oil brands and grades, PYB 10w30 is the smoothest and quietest oil tested in my noise bucket Subaru...Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w30 is excellent as well and the engine spins up noticeably faster and gets a bit better MPG over PYB 10w30. I am done.

    Delo SD 15w30

Maybe this should be in the diesel area...but...... Probably a high Boron formulation conventional with very low VII polymers. http://www.truckinginfo.com/channel/fuel...evere-duty.aspx

    Mobil 1 0W40 / PUP 10w30

Aside from TBN, why not use PUP 10w30 instead of Mobil 1 0w40 in a MB 229.5 application? Car rarely sees 3K RPM and always under 80 MPH.

    PUP 10w30 Observations

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w30 is definitely smoother running than PPwPP 10w30 and very close to the smooth running king - Pennzoil yellow bottle conventional 10w30. With PUP 10w30, you have the low volatility of a 20w50 with a nice light 10w30 and without all those nasty polymers added...Maybe...

    PUP 10w30....

....Smells like a mixture of a nasty Scotch and NyQuil. Hey SOPUS....What marketing genius decided to place a gasoline rebate number under the cap on a bottle that is not foil sealed? Most MBAs are just not capable of rationally thinking things thru.

Quieting a noisy Subaru EJ25 engine...

After long experimentation with a Subaru EJ25 chatter box, I am done (I am not kidding...this time) and have found Oil Ambrosia. 3 parts Pennzoil Conventional YB 10w30 1 part Mobil Super 5000 5w20 This combination has quieted much of the cold-start clatter and has a silky turbine-smooth hot...

Mobil Super 5000 vs Pennzoil YB

PYB 10w30 is super smooth and quiet in my Subaru EJ25. Thanks to those who pointed me to this oil. It had a noticeable boost in fuel mileage as well. For those who have used both MS5K and PYB...Which did you find better in terms noise and smooth performance in cold start (chatter), hot idle...

    GLT Solubility

Seems GTL PurePlus(TM)(R)has excellent solubility for this Group 3. Now..How about its lubricity and film thickness characteristics? Shell claims it is less expensive to produce GTL than to refine crude. I suspect they are (or will be) adding it to their low end oils.
