HM oil choices: 09' Camry with 145k on it

I've used Auto-Rx in two cars with good results. 1 - 2001 Toyota V6 Camry (covered by extended sludge warranty). Stopped a ticking sound (lifters?) twice since I've owned it. Between 1st and 2nd treatment only ran M1 3K - 5K intervals. about 60K between treatments. Both due to the ticking...

Clearing up some SN PLUS questions

oh wow. Tiny oil droplets that get into the combustion chamber are rendered less combustable. Nice. Thanks!

Clearing up some SN PLUS questions

Exactly how is a motor oil supposed to prevent pre-ignition? Sorry if this has already been answered.

Do people still use Auto-RX? or API-SN oil only?

I've used AutoRx on several cars. Fixed 2001 Camry V6 issue. But used it twice separated by 60K miles. Car good for last 70K Fixed valvetrain noise on 2007 Honda Accord V4 too. I haven't really been on this site for years. I've never received free product. But I will say with modern engine...

    Engine Noise vs Wear Protection

An old story but it may be interesting for those thinking about engine noise. I still drive my "sludge monster" 2001 V6 Camry with 186K on it. I joined BITOG hoping to avoid widespread problems that eventually resulted in an extended warranty on these cars ('97-'01) that specifically referenced...

    HDEO clean off varnish?

Engine flushes may cause lubrication problems--increased wear during flush. If you use a better oil now you will limit further varnish buildup. Since Varnish is a hard coating, what exactly does it have to do with sludge. I say live with the varnish that has formed and use an oil that won't...

    sludge issue with new toyotas

I have a 2001 Camry V6 with 83K. Got it shortly before the oil sludge thing got going. I used regular oil (pennzoil and schaeffer) then I developed a ticking sound. It would go away for 200 miles after an oil change, then come back. Used AutoRx--twice. It may have gone a way for about 500...

Mobil site says 5w20 for Windstart 3.8 V6 engine

What is the reason?? It is a loose pushrod engine.

Mobil site says 5w20 for Windstart 3.8 V6 engine

I have been using 5w30 for years just like Ford says to in the 1995 Ford 3.8 V6 Windstar. Just got a rebuilt engine 6K ago due to the old one having a cracked block. Went to the Mobil site and they say use 5w20. Before that I replaced Mobil 1 5w30 with 0w40. Seems to run a lot smoother and...

    M1 10-30, '94 Celica, 1.8 7AFE

Robert, Do an analysis on another oil. You can try Mobil 1 15w50, Schaeffer 15w40, Delo, Delvac or a Dino 10w40. My '01 camry V6 didn't seem to run as well on 10w40. I could feel the engine fight the thicker oil. The higher lead number might be normal for your engine and the lower viscosity...

    Mobil 1 0w-40 HT/HS

Buster, Mobil 1 10w30 is more shear stable and has a HT/HS of 3.2. HT/HS is not a measure of whether or not it will shear down over time. [ July 26, 2003, 11:36 AM: Message edited by: jjbula ]

    Prelim report on AUTO-Rx TX

Run Berryman's B-12 or Schaeffer Neutra thru the fuel system. That will clean out the upper cylinder. Auto-Rx has helped too.

    Toyota Oil Sludge Prevention

If you can't trust them, find a good local mechanic and go there. Or find another dealer. I've heard stories of untrustworthy people actually damaging vehicles just to repair them for you.

    Toyota Oil Sludge Prevention

I've tried using 10w40 in my '01 V6 Camry. I wanted better wear protection. But...it felt sluggish and after 2k the car was a little harder to start. Very small difference but noticeable. It was also the second oil I've used that caused the engine to make a ticking sound. With the Chevron 10w40...

    Toyota vs Amsoil

That should probably read 0 problems. I too am pissed at Toyota for bungling this but I have not heard of anyone with problems running M1 or Amsoil over 5K-6K intervals. IMHO Schaeffer would offer similar results...My UOA ('01 Camry V6) indicates it performs well. Using an engine cleaner every...

Why no NOACK #s for Mobil 1 Synthetics?

Please remember that there are at least 2 volatility tests. I can't recall if they are both called "NOACK" or not. For Schaeffer Blend 5w30- Me thinks someone may quote the results of the less stringent test. I used to really focus on NOACK but now I plan on using a good engine cleaner...

2nd Bottle of RX is over, should I go for a 3rd treatment?

Hey, are you up to the challenge of actually paying for things? We all know Auto-RX and Neutra work great.

How effective in cleaning the sludge monsters

I've used Auto-Rx too and am happy with the results. If you have been as good as you say to your engine I think the small amount of contaminants removed was worth it. Have you used an injector cleaner like Berryman or Neutra??

    Mobil 1 5w-50 and 0w-40 NOAK's on NZ site

I just figured out that the specs I posted above are from July 1996. The links in the first post say 2002. Sorry. [ April 26, 2003, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: jjbula ]
