Something I was told from a dealer

Chrysler told me they had a one qt every 800 miles as their base line definition of excessive oil consumption, when they refused to honor their warranty.

Brake System Whistle when Pendal Pushed Hard

My 2007 Ford Edge just started to whistle when I brake hard, even if the vehicle is not moving. It only starts with the pedel pushed in so far and then goes away when pushed further. No noise when the motor is off. Do you think it is the master cylinder or the power booster? The whistle comes...

How many miles before oil change???

The quality of oil is in the process of being upgraded across the board to accomodate, among other things, longer change schedules. Look for grade SN. I have been using the current Mobil 1 EP (currently an SM oil), and have successfully changed it out once a year (about 15,000 miles) in all of...

Radial Tires - were you an 'early adopter'?

I picked up a set of Michlen XStop tires for an MG back in the 60's. They lasted over 100,000 miles, but were pron to breaking away without any notice. They were first introduced in the late 40's, believe it or not. Later Michlen's had fewer and softer steel belts and were far less prone to...

    HIR 9006 for my Truck.

"You do know that the 9005 and the HIR 9012 have the same lumen rating right?" Wrong: The high beam 9005 draws 65 watts and puts out 1700 lumens. The low beam HIR12 draws 50 watts and put out 1870 lumens. I would recommend replacing a high beam 9005 with a high beam HIR11 which draws 65 watts...

    2010 Ford Fusion H11 Reccomendation

There are a lot of [censored] H9's being sold on ebay and the internet. The Narva bulb is of high quality. If you had a focus problem with a cheap H9 bulb you should try the Narva. It works great in my Ford Edge's reflector housing.

    2010 Ford Fusion H11 Reccomendation

Easy fix. Order a quality brand H9 bulb (Narva) off the internet. One bulb tab needs to be trimmed. It will provide perfect focus and almost twice the output and just draws about 10 more watts.

What kind of energy saving/efficient light bulbs?

Consumer Reports liked the Home Depot Warm light CFL's the best. LED's are going to be a great option once the price comes down a bit. Give it a year or two. More efficient incadescent bulbs will hit the market soon. Some will use the heat energy of the bulb to reflect back at the filament and...

    Any Ford V10 owners?

A design defect in the intake manifold results in a leak. Was covered by an extended warranty. Check with a dealer to see if it covered the vehicle you are looking at. I think the Honda V6 outpulls the Ford V10.

    Seal Conditioners?

Just purchased a sailboat with a 21 year old Westerbeke Diesel 3 cyl 21 hp motor. The rear seal leaked so much we were worried about legal action by the environmental police since it was finding its way into the bilge and then into the water. I put in about 2/3 of qt of Rear Seal sealent and 3...

    '02 Chrysler Town & Country w/ 80K Synthetic?

I have used Mobil 1 5W-30EP since new in my 04 Town & Country, now have 100,000 miles, and have changed the oil once a year. It still runs like new, uses little oil and there is no sign of sluge or wear.

    GY TripleTred v. Michelin HydroEdge

I have HydroEdge on my Chrysler mini-van and TripleTread's on my PT Cruiser. The HydroEdge might tend to ride a bit harder and generate a hair more noise but do seem to last a bit longer. Perhaps 70,000 miles on the HydroEdge and 60,000 on the TripleTread. Both offer superb all season traction...

    Third Brake Light Flasher

It is illegal to install flashing third brake lights at the factory; studies failed to support their use. Third brake lights were shown to reduce rear accidents about 15%. I have not seen any follow-up studies on this subject since they were widely introduced into the world market.

    What's wrong with Consumer Reports?

I was driving South on I88 from Canada and listening to NPR about CU's suit concering the alleged tippy Suzuki Samurai. Just then I passed a vehicle rolled over on it's top on the grass between the North and South lanes; it was a Suzuki Samurai. Too bad I can't have this type of stuff happen to...

Premium gas have more additive than regular gas!

When I interviewed the lab guys from the major oil companies several years ago about the level of detergent additives in their different grades of gasoline, since the advertising sometimes suggested a difference, each and every lab guy told me there was no significant difference between their...
