GM: the shame of a nation

oh nooo... so the decision was made that it's going to the shop for diagnosis and not to the scrap yard! i personally can't wait to find out what the problem is, i'll let you all know. i just ask why hang onto this thing though, it's not hard to put the TSSA# on another vehicle

GM: the shame of a nation

wapacz, essentially, yes! the failure is something electronic (probably coils) not like it spun a bearing or tossed a rod from no oil. defektes, the tranny being like a billion year old design actually didnt fail. it leaks like a sieve but it was topped off... it was something electronic more...

GM: the shame of a nation

hey Addy, I'm no big fan of Ford, but the Econolines have over 400k KMs, gets treated much worse and while no luxury cruiser, has at least not failed without any warning like this!

GM: the shame of a nation

So, it's not often I drive a GM. In fact, I can't recall the last time I did drive one...until today. Took a "work" van which is a Pontiac Trans Sport 3800 96-ish (with the bonneville headlights) for today. What a MISTAKE. It needed 3 liters of ATF before I could get it to move. The thing has...

I want to try a "designer" oil.

lol@the photochops! Doesnt the OP mean "boutique" and not "designer"? Yes designer conjures up images of D&G oil, but it would probably mean a custom blend made for a specific application. Boutique is a nice word people use for higher priced products from small oil blenders, but all are...

    UPDATE: 1997 Camry 5SFE

I've never used ARX or any other flush product in our 97, just SuperTech (Safety-Kleen) synthetic, MaxLife and now a RedLine 0w10 blend, and it is much cleaner than that. The spark plug tubes show an archeological breakdown of previous varnish layers, and there is zero sludge in the engine. It's...

    Best car you ever had

I regret selling my '88 MX-6 GT Turbo automatic the most. That car was awesome! The continuous low end torque could push you back in yer seat while never getting over 2700rpm. Plenty of torque and a competent electronic auto are a great combination.

+1 on the Redline. Doesn't get much better than that.

    Mixing HM oils

Wouldn't have a problem. Some people may argue that the chemistries will clash and get into a cat fight or something or that your engine will be renewed to the pre-casting stage

Choosing oil for 99 Camry in N Maine, 76K miles

Well, our 97 Camry 5S-FE currently has a blend of MaxLife 5w20 and Redline 0w10. Probably about 1/3rd the way through the OCI, and the engine's very quiet! Quieter than a popular 5w30 synthetic was. Engine runs great, leaks are all fixed and it consumes no discernable amount. The engine is...
