    Antique pistol

This is something my grandfather had. The only thing I have been able to find out is that there was an english gunmaker named John Utting around 1799-1820. Any ideas? It's about a .50 caliber.

    AC compressor oil

Compressor is a two-piston York on a late 70's Ford. I have the Ford spec part number but am wondering what would be a compatible oil. I'm sure there is nothing uncommon about this, I just don't know much about AC systems. I'll be recharging it with R12a. I'm just putting this one back together...

    Petro Canada Dex VI

Some oil bottle porn for ya! I had to order a case, it seems the stations don't carry it. 16 liters for 89.92 @ 5.62 per.

    4L60E - recommendations?

Time for a flush and fill. As much as I would like to put some Redline or Amsoil in there, 12qts is going to set me back too many $$. So I'm looking for a good, preferably inexpensive synthetic that into which I would not have to add GM friction modifier. I just don't want to go to the dealer.

    Canada bashing

All our boys are getting killed in Afghanistan at the moment. Just lost 3 more, total to date 103. So let's not bash Canada, OK. Afghanistan is not OUR war. It's yours and you still haven't wrapped that up yet have you?

    Naked valve train pic!

This is a 1978 Ford 200 cid motor with 108,000 miles, if the odometer is to be believed. Currently at the end of the rinse phase of Arx, and GTX HM. I am very happy to see there is no sludge at all. I am pulling the head to swap out a cracked exhaust manifold. And swap in a mildly worked-over...

    Flushed my transmission today

Ford C4, type F. I stuck a plastic hose on the cooler line and ran it into a bucket with liter markings. Started the car, and it pumped about 2 liters out before air came up. Refilled the 2 liters. Repeat process. Run it through the gears. I used 8 liters. I initially ran a hose into a fitting...

    Diesel OK for Autorx rinse?

I'm just about to dump the clean phase of this Arx cycle, and was wondering if a diesel oil would NOT be recommended for a rinse cycle? It's pretty warm here lately, and most of my stash is 5-30, but I found a lone jug of 15-40 that might be better for the highway driving I expect to be doing...

    Should I slob it?

I've got Castrol GTX HM 10w/30 in my engine right now. It's a 200cid straight six 1978 Ford, and the odometer is at around 89k kilometers, but since I'm not the origial owner, it could be 189k! Finally got some SLOB from a member down south, and was going to use it later with some Valvoline...

    CD-2 Maxx oil treatment

This stuff in the silver bottle was on sale at my local Canadian Tire, so I picked up a couple. I can't seem to find any info on what's in it. Any ideas? Seems the big hype on the package is "now with anti-wear protection". I'm just looking for a SLOB substitute, cause we don't have slob up here...

Make your own dino from plankton

OIL A Spanish firm is developing a process to make dino oil from plankton. The sooner the better. [ July 22, 2006, 01:32 AM: Message edited by: Bio-T ]

    ARX and Honda 4-stroke

I have a mid 80's Honda 35hp outboard. Just did an oil and filter change, and had a bit of ARX left over from my engine dose, so I put in a couple ounces or so. It is typically run WOT for about 15-20min. at a stretch, and gets quite a bit of idle time while trolling. How many hours should this...

    ARX and UOA

I am about to drain the first phase of an ARX cycle, and wondering if I should get a sample and have it analysed. Would the UOA give skewed results due to the cleaning?

VSOT, SLOB not in Canada, eh?

I can't seem to find these additives up here? There are CD2 and Valvoline products available, but not specifically those mentioned here. Are there equivalent products here under different names? I'm looking for something to add to the Valvoline dino in my high-mileage '78. I'm about 400 miles...

    Ford C4 recommendations please

Hello again, it's time for a filter and fluid change for my 1978 C4 auto. The manual calls for type "F", but I'd like to try a synthetic. Price is not an issue, I just want the "best" in terms of smoothness, and the fact this is an old transmission and could probably use a healthy dose of...

    new guy - old ford

Hi all, been lurking, time to post! I have a 1978 Fairmont with a 3.3l straight six. The odometer reads about 82k km, but it's probably been wrapped once. In excellent condition as a daily driver. I bought it about a year ago, but it could easily not be the original motor I suppose. Was due for...
