    Oil Temp ? For AEHass

Yes, an Accusump is an option but you never mentioned oil starvation (i think) until now. We recently added a tweak baffle (in addition to the stock baffle) to my oil pan that is said to eliminate the long right hand turn starvation in the car here. If you do not have starvation problem, i think...

    Oil Temp ? For AEHass

Tried water wetter and found it ok, but did not make much of a difference. Think it is really for those who use 100% water yet still need a lubricant for the water pump. It claims to also help cooling.... Might flirt with Evans stuff as i have it here, though so far the 25% green with water...

    Oil Temp ? For AEHass

Wow that is high, but then again if they did indeed design that in from the factory. Track the Ferrari 308 a lot and before mods (two years ago) my coolant was at 125C and oil at 140C. Felt this was way too high and went with a more effective than stock radiator. Now my coolant temps are around...

    Light weight Flywheel

The results are in. Went from a combined 30 lbs to about 15 lbs of flywheel/clutch. Results are via my in-car Traqmate data acquisition unit as compared two like track events. Acceleration is much improved with an average top speed of 5 to 10 mph before the braking zone where the exit speed from...

    Light weight Flywheel

Interesting thread as i just installed a lightweight flywheel and clutch in the car here. It is tracked often and agree that this setup, due to less mass, makes getting the car moving from dead stop a bit more challenging. Other gears are fine, as is first, provided the car is moving. The car...

Ferrari Enzo 2003, 1,400 mi Shell Helix Racing 60 wt.

That's me. see UOAs below. All UOA are using Mobil 1 0W-40. #1 Noted bad air filtration below. Also, used this oil for TOO MANY track days (about 6) where rpm went over 7k quite a bit. UOA done by Spectrum Labs #2 Fixed the air filtration situation and had fresh oil and filter, then ran it...

Ferrari Enzo 2003, 1,400 mi Shell Helix Racing 60 wt.

Amen. First, a HUGE thanks to you for helping me through your excellent writings and postings here and on Fchat. Of course i can not say for sure about the wear, but my suspicions are startup wear. Of course the only way to know for sure is to switch oils and compare UOA. Have a sneaking...

Time for OC in collector Ferrari after 2.5 yrs?

First, drive a 1985 Euro 308 as daily beater and track rat. Have changed to various oils over the past few years to find the sweet spot for MY example and MY type of use. The silicone is a bit high and i would change oil every 2 years i would change the oil and filter every two years regardless...

TooSlick, Many thanks, will consider other oils for next year's run after we do the full engine rebuild and breakin.

Mobil 0W-40 track miles (600) Ferrari 308GTS QV

TooSlick, Thanks for the info, though viscosity was a small touch off and they did detect small traces of fuel (think i know how that is getting there and will solve this winter during full engine rebuild). As for sheer down, must defend the oil in some regard as the two days at Lime Rock Park...

    Underfill or Overfill?

Can only speak for the wet sump track car here... everyone suggests overfill due to possible starvation problem during hard right turns as the oil sloshes around the bottom of the pan. Some also install Accusump to keep the oil going and/or use a modified pan that reduces the oil's ability to...

Mobil 0W-40 track miles (600) Ferrari 308GTS QV

Spec Miatas look very impressive on the track! Better still, parts for the Miata are available AND inexpensive PLUS you have a lot of aftermarket guys making parts. Next track rat will be open wheel car once i tire of saloon cars. The 308 and Miata are a nice momentum cars... good for learning...

Mobil 0W-40 track miles (600) Ferrari 308GTS QV

First, thank you to everyone as your help in reading the previous UOA has been extremely valuable. As you can see below, if you saw the previous two UOAs, things are coming down to now being extremely good IMHO. Have been suggesting to my other track friends to do UOAs to REALLY see what is...

    Wow...

FYI: Ferrari suggests torque of 72 on the 308GTS. My Featherlight trailer suggests torque to 90. Frankly, i would NEVER use an air gun to tighten bolts.

Mobil 0W-40 w/4 race days in Ferrari 308 w/70k miles

TooSlick, Alas, never ran an analysis after using Amsoil. Have a virgin gallon of it laying around here, but the car takes 2.2 gallons for an oil change. What i do notice is that with the thicker Amsoil the engine seemed less responsive, and as you said ran hotter (with the caveat mentioned in...

Mobil 0W-40 w/4 race days in Ferrari 308 w/70k miles

If you look at my previous UOA ( http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=003454 ) you can see that M1 did indeed sheer down considerably. This was after a few track events and some road use. Since that previous UOA it was decided to change oil out after each event...

Mobil 0W-40 w/4 race days in Ferrari 308 w/70k miles

Sidney004, Many thanks for the suggestion and you are right in that the engine is designed for high rpm. The oil filter used is actually an industrial-grade Baldwin B253 as the filter is huge, mounted upside down, and therefor needs a proper anti-drain valve to keep oil in the filter to...
