Valvoline Lost $10 million in 3rd Qtr

Eh, I'll take Redline and Yuengling over Valvoline and Budweiser on topic: Considering that most major companies nowadays are multi-national, how much of a difference would it really make if Valvoline were bought by a foreign-owned company?

    "Premium synthetics"

bighead, a lot of people here aren't talking about Group III when they say "synthetic."

    Synthetic Comparisons

That's true ****, but the 4 ball wear test that they love to use is not the best way to compare oils and its results should not be taken as gospel when deciding on what to buy.

Castrol GTX 5w-30 still any good?

Most people here seem to consider it a good oil. For 3500 miles, it'll definitely be fine.

Redline SI-1 in 7 month old gas

Thanks for the input, but I found the problem last week. After racking my brain and wasting my time trying to figure out which sensor it was on the intake side of the motor, it was the upstream O2 sensor. For some reason (maybe it's common to other cars too), it seems pretty common for...

    Redline 10W40, 3000km, Porsche 968

iirc, the bottle says 3,000, but when I emailed them, Dave said that 1,500-2000 would be safe. I'd imagine the way in which the engine was broken in would be significant too. If it was broken in along the lines of MotoMan's ideas, you could probably switch sooner than if it had an "easy" break-in.

A Manufacturer to Pull Out of NASCAR and Go Elsewhere?

Since this thread was brought back from the dead, I might as well comment. The distance between F1 cars has a lot to do with their dependence on aero grip (and lack of mechanical grip) and parity between cars and little to do with the tracks they race on. If you put F1 on an oval, they still...

    Catalytic converter cleaner??

I've never heard of cat cleaners or any type of break-in either. In fact, on the way home from having my Catco cat (which is said to be low quality by a lot of people) installed, I made at least a few full throttle/redline shifts to see if there was any difference in power (it's supposed to be a...

    Best price for Redline?

Someone commented a couple weeks ago that myoilshop hasn't updated their page in a long time but carries the full line of Redline products. They said that they'd order 5w30 through the shopping cart and specify that they want 5w20 in the "notes" section. I'd want to call them to be sure, but the...

    Best price for Redline?

Best online place I've seen is $7/quart from myoilshop.com. A lot of people have reported decent shipping. I've heard of people getting it for $6.xx at places local to them, so someone in your area may be able to direct you.

    Handle on CAT ?

the thing is, it's a pipe with what looks like a cap on the end.

    Handle on CAT ?

I have a catco cat too and have wondered the same thing.

    Yokohama - Oh mama

If you're going back to the shop to have the tires rotated, they should also flip the tires on the wheels. So that the inside of your left rear tire becomes the outside of the right front, the outside of the right front becomes the inside of the left rear, etc. It's pretty unusual to see tires...

    MOBIL 1 v REDLINE

I can look at a tire and tell if it's worn out. I know there are a lot of nuts here, but I haven't seen anyone claim to be able to tell if oil should be changed from looking at it

    MOBIL 1 v REDLINE

I emailed Redline and Dave said to give it 1500-2000 miles. I'm just under 1000 miles now and and will be commuting between DC and Baltimore this week, so I'm likely to put another 500 miles on the car. I may just change the oil this afternoon and do a short OCI with more dino. TooSlick, I...

    MOBIL 1 v REDLINE

I agree with you carock, but how many people use their car for 100% of the engine life? If properly maintained (even with cheap dino and filters), most cars will fall apart around the engine before it's worn out. For the vast majority of people, who's car is nothing more than a source of...

    GM goes Rice

click the link I posted. The LS7 is the engine in the current generation Corvette Z06. It is also sold as a crate engine through GM and can relatively easily be dropped in anything that will take an LS1 (last generation base Corvette, Trans Am, and Camaro engine). It comes with forged main caps...

Drum or Disk on the back?

I don't mean to flame by any means coopns, but if you don't know how to tell the difference between drums and discs, or what the difference is, you should probably do some more research before doing brakes by yourself. Maybe even have a shop do the brakes or have a knowledgeable friend walk you...

    GM goes Rice

The LS7 is hand built. It makes 500hp from the factory and is an intake, exhaust, and cams away from a daily driveable 600 crank horsepower. As much as I like the SRT4 and Cobalt SS, there isn't a 4 cylinder on the market that could handle daily driving with 600hp at the crank, and I don't...
