Best lubricant for small gear reduction motors??

I'm seeking recommendations for an oil to use in miniature timing motors which I rebuild. Up until now I've used M1 0W-20 and wonder if there's a more appropriate product. (ex: synthetic ATF??) These motors turn at 3600 RPM and reduction gearing brings them down to slower speeds such as 1 RPM...

Can a 100 PSI/1 Stage compresor pump run air tools

I need to replace just the pump on my air compressor. (Ingersoll Rand, 5 HP, 60 gallon tank). I found a real nice Quincy single stage twin cylinder pump but it's only rated 100 PSI max. That means that I would probably have to adjust my pressure switch for a cut in of around 80 PSI and cut off...

Where to get Schaeffer's 221 Grease??

Last time I bought Schaeffer's 221 there was an online source that sold small quantities online. (However this goes back a few years). I thought is was an outdoor equipment shop in the SE. Where is everyone ordered it from these days in small quantities? (ie cartridges vs. pallets, carloads or...

Looking for a grease gun that works

I've got my oil changes down to "one paper towel" but grease lubrication requires the entire rest of the roll. I'm constantly fighting this thing loosing prime, unable to eject the grease, leaking, messy, stuck plunger, etc. Anyone have a recommendation on a user friendly grease gun that's...

What is Marvel Mystery Oil?? (does it lubricate?)

Does this stuff really have lubricating properties when used as a stand alone product. Is it really oil based? What is it? (this is not for an automotive application)

How to remove gas from modern vehicle??

Let's say I have a generator that needs fuel during an extended outage. Let's also assume that I have vehicles with nearly full fuel tanks. Is there an effective and safe way to get fuel out of the vehicles? Siphon hoses (ie Oklahoma credit cards) no longer work due to special anti-siphon...

    Robin Engines - Any good??

I'm considering a log splitter and there are two engines offered. (ie B&S and Robin). I don't know much about Robin. Are they any good? I've always thought Honda and Kohler were "top shelf" with B&S being "average" and Tecumseh as "bottom of the barrel". Where does Robin fit in?

    Which Battery????

My '93 Supra goes thru batteries too fast. (1 yr life is average). I think the problem is that the car's security system and PCM draws enough current to drain the battery dry in 30-60 days. I only drive the car once every 2-3 months. I read that modern car batteries don't like deep discharge...

When to do first ATF change (ie break in)

On engine oil on a new car I do my first change at 500, then at 1500, then at 5000 and then go by the manufacturer's recommendation. For ATF, when's a good conservative mileage for the first break in fluid change? (5000 miles, 10,000 miles or other)

Wix 51042 vs. AC Delco PF 46 vs. Pure One PL14006 - My Analysis

Today I changed oil in my '05 GXP and decided to disect the old Pure One PL14006. Then I decided it wouldn't do any good to compare it to itself so I dissected a brand new PF46 and 51042 in the name of science. Media: - Wix: 1.5" X 60" = 90 sq inches. Pleats are 3/4" wide - Pure One: 2" X 60" =...

    Wix filters @ filter1.com - 2 thumbs up!!

I decided to switch 100% of my filtration needs over to Wix filters. Someone suggested filter1.com as a supplier. They're great. All my filters were shipped the same day and they pay the freight if the order is over $50. In addition their prices are heavily discounted from MSRP (Wix filters are...

Is the Purolator bypass valve design all that bad???

In reading the threads on Purolator it apperas that the bypass valve location is a "bone of contention". I have the following questions: 1. How often does a filter actually go into bypass mode? 2. Does the Purolator design really sweep dirt back into the crankcase in bypass mode? 3. If the...

Do turbo's like high flow or high filtration better? What about diesels??

I'm trying to standardize on an oil filter brand for all my vehicles. (either Purolator or Wix) The earlier thread seemed to imply that Wix is better for flow and Pure One's are better for filtration. One of my vehicles is a twin turbo Supra and I'm trying to decide if it would prefer high...

Wix vs. Pure One - Which is better??

Assuming price were equal, which of these 2 filter lineups do you think are better? I can get all my Wix filters from Filter1.com for about the same price as I can for Pure Ones purchased locally when there's a sale. These two filters seem to get a lot of praise here. Is there a clear winner...

Should I stick with John Deere oil filters for diesel tractors?

I have a couple diesel tractor and have been using John Deere OEM oil filters. I found a cross to Purolators. (both Premium Plus and Pure Ones). Is there any complelling reason to stick with JD filters? Do diesels have specific filtration requirements? The Purolators are cheaper and much...

Powerflo - Are they same as Purolator Plus???

I was browsing at oil filters today at GI Joes. They're lineup is Purolator Plus at approx. $3-5, Pure One at about $6 and Powerflow at about $2.50. Powerflow appears to be made by Purolator. Are they the same internally as a regular Purolator? Has anyone disected one? t seems like good value...

Is 2 yrs OK for a filter that's not used much??

I have a tractor, a truck, and a collectors car that doesn't get used much. (we're talking less then 1000 miles year and maybe 10-20 hrs on the tractor). I change oil annually. Am I safe to do the filter every other year? Does filtration media break down from just sitting?

"Baby's" first oil change - olive green oil came out!!

I changed oil in my '05 Pontiac GP GXP today at 500 miles. I've never seen used oil look like this. It was Olive Green!! I've been changing oil my whole life and I've never seen an olive green color from used oil. What the heck kind of factory fill does GM put in these LS4's??

New car - best oil change strategy during break in??

I just picked up my new '05 Pontiac GXP with an LS4 V8. I want to give it the best head start with respect to break in. It's got a whopping 83 miles on it so far. Should I change the oil now or wait a tad longer?? If I change it now should I change it again at another intermediate interval...
