If you get rear ended while in Park, it can damage the Park mechanism, so leave it in gear with the brake on.

    Battery recondition?

Recently I've been watching a lot of stuff on YouTube about battery rejuvenation. Much of it is just BS and old wives tales, but one method that seems to work quite often is using a stick welder. The Project Farm guy, one of the more credible YouTubers, shows this. In all cases they use a...

    Battery trickle charger?

At 4.5 amps that is a Charger/Maintainer. Fine if you don't have a charger, although a bit underpowered to charge a flat battery in less than an hour. But if you already have a decent charger, you don't need 4.5 amps. A maintainer with a max output an amp or less is sufficient and cheaper.

    Battery trickle charger?

Well, you either have a battery tender or a useful charger. You won't see both combined with full features like fast 15 amp fast charge and 100 amp engine start. My regular chargers have those features and a even a 2 amp trickle charge setting, but that's not a battery tender function and needs...

    Best vs. cheapest battery maintainers.

Let's not overthink this temperature compensation thing. I have a Battery Tender Plus (which claims to have temperature compensation) on my summer car in the garage. I have a Battery Tender Jr. and a MOTOPOWER MP00205A (not temperature compensated) on a couple of mowers out in the shed...

    Best vs. cheapest battery maintainers.

An extension should make absolutely no difference for maintaining a battery because the current for than is very small, causing negligible voltage drop. At 10 amps output you're mot maintaining, but charging a low battery.

I see the Schumacher SC1300 is approved for under-hood mounting and does not have a universal fused disconnect like most others do. You can do more research. The Deltran ones are rated for 50°C (122°F), so it depends where you mount them. Typically you'd use a quick disconnect, which you can buy...

The bleeping confusion of key fob programming...does anyone have expertise on this topic?

Lots of key fob programing threads here. This is my experience. 2005 Dodge Magnum, bought used in 2016. Came with one key (original). I bought a programmable key off eBay, got it cut, and the dealer programmed it for $80. Would not guarantee it would work, but it did. I later got another key...

    Battery trickle charger?

I've used Deltran Battery Tenders for years for my summer car and riding mower. I have another question. We have two riding mowers, both with identical batteries. I had a Battery Tender Jr. for each of the mowers, but one has been mislaid. Any advice on connecting the two batteries in parallel...

True battery maintainers are meant to be connected forever with no detrimental effects to the battery.

    Best vs. cheapest battery maintainers.

I'm talking when my car won't start on a cold winter morning because the battery is low for whatever reason. Before I had a charger with engine start, I'd put on my 10 Amp charger, go in and have another cup of coffee, and it would be ready to go. You can't do that with a 4 Amp battery...

    Best vs. cheapest battery maintainers.

Thanks webfors, that did not come up in my search. But it's still high for a battery maintainer in today's marketplace, and 4.5 amps is unnecessary for maintaining but inadequate for quick charging.

I'm not a Costco fan because it's 45 minutes away. But here in Canada I only see one maintainer there, Shell SBC400 4 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer Price $59.99 CAD That's more than twice the price of my MOTOPOWER MP00205A 12V 800mA from Amazon. In my opinion, a maintainer is not a...

As I said earlier, battery maintainer technology is established and there are lots of Chinese clones that have been reverse engineered and marketed. I always stayed with the original Deltran Battery Tender Plus and Junior, but I now have a Motopower MP00205A I got for half the price on Amazon...

    Best vs. cheapest battery maintainers.

The Deltran Battery Tender Plus is temperature compensated, but not the BT Jr. or the Motopower MP00205A. However, I use the BT Plus in my garage and the BT Jr. out in the shed for my mower, where temperature would be a factor with no problems.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have to conclude that most of the current battery maintainers out there are knock-offs of the original Deltran Battery Tender and price depends on manufacturing quality and reputation. Everything gets reverse engineered. I have no qualms over buying the Motopower...

Which makes me wonder, has Deltran kept up with evolving technology and is a 20-year-old Battery Tender Plus as good as a new one or similar ones on the market.

I've had a Deltran Battery Tender Plus for years and use it to maintain my show car's battery over the winter. I got it when this was the only well-known and highly respected unit and it has served me well. It maintained the last battery for over 13 years, instead of dying over the winter. Since...
