    Honda break-in oil

I changed at 4,250 on my new AV6 Coupe. After a 2,200 mile road trip the oil was downright black. Made me very nervous to keep it in longer. Now I can sleep better.

How would a manufacturer know what oil you are using to void your warrantee?

Yah, I figured that it would just make you look guilty if you did that I think that it was pretty poor customer service of GM to take the court route. I don't think a lot of other companies would have gone that way. I have a 7yr/70K mile extended warrantee so I am somewhat concerned about this...

How would a manufacturer know what oil you are using to void your warrantee?

So from that post, I'm guessing you don't think that it could ever be a problem either. (?)

How would a manufacturer know what oil you are using to void your warrantee?

I have heard a lot of talk about having your warrantee voided if you do not use the specified grade of oil, but how would the dealer's shop know? It's not like they are going to send for UOA to prove it when you come in with a problem. Is this concern really founded at all? [ May 01, 2003...

    Oil and Moly

Amsoil doesn't have any? Crap, this may change my whole plan...or should it?

Need help figuring out the difference between Amsoil products.

Very nice. Thanks for the answers. Gonna load up mine and the wife's cars. On another forum someone told me that I should run Dino in my new car until about 10K miles then switch to syn. Has something to do with break in and wanting more wear early on to get things to seat properly. Do you guys...

Need help figuring out the difference between Amsoil products.

I don't so much care about getting "close to 5W20" as I do getting the best protection for my engine. Still recommend the TSO? BTW - When you say TSO do you mean their "Series 2000" 0w30? That's the only 0w30 i see on the store site. [ April 29, 2003, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: Snatchface ]

Need help figuring out the difference between Amsoil products.

Very cool. This is the plan for my new Honda V6 6-Speed. Manual recommends 5W20. Aside from warrantee issues, is this a good choice?

So...aside from warrantee coverage, is there any advantage to the XL-7500? Price is about the same.

Need help figuring out the difference between Amsoil products.

What is the difference between "SAE 5W-30 XL-7500 Synthetic Motor Oil" and "SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil" ? They seem to cost about the same per quart.

I'm open to suggestions for next oil change

Whoa...I thought if you were going with extended drain intervals you had to change the filter at the regular interval anyway. Not true?

    5W20 or ? Recommendation

IS this a concensus opinion??? I have the same car and all I have heard up until this is to NOT get the Honda filter...that it was crap (at least the U.S. one). [ April 12, 2003, 08:32 AM: Message edited by: Snatchface ]

I'm just a caveman - someone please make recommendations for my new Accord.

you betcha what is the difference between the 7500 and their 2000 series. Should I use 5w20 or 5w30? Amsoil claims that the 5w30 is better because of less shear and film, whatever that means (i'm just a caveman). Or should I use the 2000 series 0w30. Money is no object. Manual specs say 7500...

Thanks TR3, what grade of Amsoil should I use (I presume 5w30) and where is a good place to buy Amsoil? Do they have different blends, and if so which one should I use? Also I was thinking Amsoil/Mobil 1 filter. Any problems with that combo that you can think of? [ April 01, 2003, 04:55 PM...

Oh sorry. It's brand new 2003 V6 6-speed coupe with 600 miles on it.

In the immortal words of Phil Hartman - I'm just a caveman, I don't understand your magical flying machines or picture boxes. I don't understand your cSt, VI, VII, ST/SD, Moly etc... And while I could spend the next week reading all the posts on these forums to figure it out, I'd rather drive...

New car first oil change at 500 miles - necessary???

I read the manual, and while it says nothing about a special "break-in oil", it does specifically say to NOT change the oil until the recommended interval. Considering the only other things it says not to do in the break-in section are to 1.) not start at full throttle and 2.) not stomp on the...

New car first oil change at 500 miles - necessary???

On another forum, several people told me that I had to change my oil at 500 miles. I have a new 2003 Accord Coupe V6 and the manual recommends only the standard interval for the first oil change. Also I want to go M1 synthetic and the recommended grade is 5W-20. Do they have that yet or am I ok...
