    First Experience with 5W-20 oil

I juste changed the oil in my new Civic Coupe. First time I have worked with this weight oil. Is it just me or is this stuff like water? I was amazed. Sure hope it works like oil. Weird stuff, I can see why it helps MPG.

    5W-30 in Honda Civic

I have a new 2007 Civic coupe that calls for 5w-20. I have 24 qts of PP 5W-30. I live in So. California. So, you experts, any risk or downside if I run the heavier oil? Fuel mileage does down by how much? So we are clear, if I SHOULD use the 20 I will. Just curious the EPA hype vs. the reality.

Are all zero weight oils PAO or Ester?

Just bought a brand new civic which calls for 5W-20. If I can, I would like to run a REAL synthetic oil in the car. I have seen several posts which assert that all 0W oils are either PAO or Ester. Is this true? If so, I can run a 0W-20 in my Civic. Thanks for the input.

    Rotella T for BMW 328i?

Hi guys, Car is a 1999 BMW 328i with 96K on it. Runs and looks great. First oil change for me was Rotella T for 3K just to make sure engine was a bit clean. Then, at 95K, went with M1 0W-40 per BMW approved oil list. I intend to change at 5K intervals and was thinking that Rotella T was...

    Porsche recommends 20K miles OCI

As most of you may know, Porsche is using a 20K OCI on all of its models, specifying M1 0W-40. I am having a hard time on my Porsche forum convincing some guys that this may not be the best strategy to follow for long engine life. Given the price of a new Porsche engine ($12-20K) I personally...

    Switching to Red Line

After all the M1 flap, I have decided to switch to Red Line for my wife's Subaru. My intention is to use an OCI of 7500 miles. I would appreciate thoughts on this move and also, what oil filter is up to 7500 miles. I had been using M1 every 5K miles and a OEM oil filter from Subaru. Thanks guys.

    Is BMW 5W-30 German Castrol?

Just curious if this is an easier way to find GC?

Switch from M1 to Shell Rotella T Synthetic

I need your opinions. I am thinking of switching from M1 5w-30 to Rotella T Syn 5W-40. Hoping the motor will quiet down and that Rotella actually is better on the wear side of things. My OCI is 5K miles. Is this oil too heavy for my 2004 Subaru Outback 4 cylinder, which recommends 5W-30? I...

    Engine noise--M1 vs Redline

I just went through a sequence of M1 to Redline to M1 in my Buell XB9S. Since this engine is air cooled and right out there, the noise level is fairly clear and distinct. My verdict! The M1 15W-50 is clearly a quieter motor oil than the Redline 20W-50 that I used in between. At first, I wasn't...

    Group type for oils

Forgive me for what may be a simple question. How can one easily tell what Group oil we are dealing with. That is to say, if I want to find out if an oil is a Group 3 ,4 or 5 base, where can I go to find this out. Seems like a pretty important issue in a purchase decision, at least to me it...

    Several quick questions

Hi guys, here they are: Is Pennsoil Platinum a Group 4 synthetic or a 3? If so, how does one find this out? Also, has anyone found out any specs on the BMW 5W-30 syn, ie, who makes it, what are the specs, is it group 4 etc. I think is is Castrol but have not been able to get any product data...

    M1 0W-40 vs Shell Rotella 5W-40

I think these are both pretty good oils. The car is a 1999 BMW 328I and BMW approves of the M1 oil. Since the Rotella is so much cheaper, I am wondering what you oil expert guys think. The product data is pretty close on these I think. Thanks!

Does anyone know the HTHS of M1 75W-90

I have not been able to find this number on the M1 website. Does anyone know what it might be? Thanks

Adding a dipstick to a "lifetime fill " trans

I know this may sound strange but bear with me. I recently changed the fluid and filter in my 99 BMW 328I. This is a so-called lifetime fill trans. Nonsense! Anyway, after draining fluid, dropping pan, installing new filter, we then needed to add new fluid. This was the hardest part of the...
