    1954 Snap-On ratchet re-kitted

    Paint protection film

I had it done (whole nose, rocker panels and front part of rear quarter panels) on a new Corvette. I am pleased so far, but it has only been on a little more than a year. It has saved two stone chips so far, and bugs wash right off.

    who sells time-serts?

Time Serts and Helicoils are substantially different, in that Time Serts install a FULL depth thread in the other part. Helicoils cut only a partial depth thread and thus do not restore the original strength to the part. The down side of Time Serts is that one needs more material in the parent...

75 Corvette with strange clunking in rear?

Rear strut rod bushing going bad. Get it up in the air and look at the strut rods. It will be hard to see the inner one but the outers should be easy to see the edges. A relatively easy job to change the strut rod bushings.

The real reason we need to drill ANWAR

Almost all the crude from the north slope goes to Asia. Where do you suppose the crude from ANWR will go? Not to the US. Drilling in ANWR will only make the oil companies more profits. It will not help US fuel prices a lick.

Accuracy of digital tire pressure gauges?

I like the Accu-gage dial type. Their headquarters is near me, and I can have my gages calibrated by them easily. The company founder is semi-retired and I love to watch him do the calibrations. Nice to chat with him too. They have manufacturing facilities at their HQ, but I am not sure where...

    Washing a Shop-Vac filter?

I've washed out Craftsman shop vac filters with water for years. No problem. Jut don't use so much force that there is physical damage to the filter, and let it dry before reinstalling it into the vac.

why jams appear for no apparent reason

You must have lived in Chicago a long time ago. Almost all the inner city on-ramps have metering lights here now.

Anyone have this Lisle oil filter set

I have had one for several years. Works fine for my fleet. I bought it on sale at Carquest Bumper to Bumper for around that price. It is handy to have the carrying case and all the wrenches in one place.

    Paintless Dent removal

The more dents done at one time the less the cost per dent. It is a highly skilled project though. The quality will depend on the skill of the tech. I paid 75 to 100 per dent. I also had a whole host of hail dents removed from another car. All came out well.

    Avatars

I too would like to keep mine, but I'll probably send some more money soon into the new year. Oops, looks like i am too late.

    Air Impact 1/2"

I have ordered stuff from thetoolwarehouse.net with no problems. They have a warehouse in Illinois, so I do not escape the sales tax, but I get what I order rapidly. I once had an item go to someone else -- not toolwarehouse's fault, UPS screw-up -- they shipped a new item and it arrived the day...

125 Years Later and Tesla's Victory Is Complete

I probably shouldn't admit it, but I used to operate mercury arc rectifiers as we called then in the USA. We took them out of service in the early to mid '70s. In Chicago we turned the three-wire Edison DC system to rectifiers around that time as well. I've been retired for seven years, but I...

Digital Torq wrenchs - any good

I have used clicker torque wrenches for years, but when the ratchet broke on a Craftsman and Sears refused to fix it for free I bought the snap-on digital techwrenches. I love them, and they work fine. Not inexpensive, but I hope they will be the last torque wrenches I ever buy. They do consume...

    Car battery explosion

My 2001 Camaro had a battery explosion, based on the evidence under the hood. Maintenance records show a battery replacement at about 12K miles under warranty. The car was a highway patrol car. In my former life as a utility worker I had occasion to witness several stationary battery cell...

    Installing Alternator Question

There is a tool that is better than a meter to check the charging system. Sun (now a division of Snap-on) makes one called a VAT -- Volt Amp Tester. There are similar tools marketed by other companies. It will check the battery and the alternator and starter (although you likely don't need the...
