So I order a Fumoto valve off of Amazon...

Nope, not for the Vibe (which I still have). It's for my truck. Guess I should have updated my profile though...been five years since I last posted.

So I order a Fumoto valve off of Amazon...

Okay, little follow up: Contacted Amazon via chat, they told me to keep them. Jeeze...that's a lot of money. What to do?

So I order a Fumoto valve off of Amazon...

...and I get a Baker's Dozen. Of course, I instantly checked my C/C for a $250 charge; but no, only $25. Even if I do the right thing, this is going to be a hassle. Hmmm...

    Collinite 845 or 476s?

I just used 845 for the first time on a Mustang w/a fresh, single stage paint job and I'm a total believer now. The shine is simply amazing, and considering how easy it was to apply and remove (being conscious of the "thin" rule), this will now be my go-to wax for all my vehicles. Though I...

    Oil recommendation for 06 Corolla

If it were me (and I have this engine too), it would be whatever major brand 5w30 is on sale, with an oil change every 5K or thereabouts. No need for pricey filters, no need for boutique oils; save that money for your next car, the one that has more than 130hp. M_C PS: A 1/4 to 1/2 quart per...

    Battery discharging every 48 hours.

Thanks for the suggestions, Guys. Dan: I've done everything you've suggested, no luck. Also: Yes, it still has the unbanded, tank-on-the-bumper...albeit, a new one. As the car is rarely driven, I've sort of accepted the "Pinto risk." As far as parasitic draws, this year Mustang has very few...

    Battery discharging every 48 hours.

About two weeks ago the battery (the alternator, I pulled that and replaced it w/a Borg Warner; two days later, battery is again dead. At first I thought I had a parasitic drain somewhere, but before pulling fuses to go that route, I decided to check the voltage at the battery while the car is...

Any miracle products out there for 60's era vinyl?

Trying to save a bit of money while upgrading the interior of my '66 Mustang. The passenger and rear bench seats (vinyl) are both in good shape, other than they are just old and have 46 years of minor wear on them. Any suggestions on products to bring back old vinyl like this? I don't need...

    Cleaning old nuts & bolts.

After the suggestions here, I tried two things: Coke and vinegar. After four days of soaking, the vinegar solution was clearly superior to Coke. While Coke did have an effect, the bolts, nuts & washers in the vinegar solution (50/50) were much cleaner. That said, I returned the parts to their...

    Cleaning old nuts & bolts.

I've got a bunch of old fasteners that are grimy and have some rust on the threads. I'm quite sure I could just wipe them off a bit and reinstall them later, but I was wondering if there is a solvent or cleaner solution that might clean these things up a bit better. Mind you, I'm not looking to...

Mityvac brake bleeding: Closest wheel first?

I know that it's standard to bleed the passenger rear wheel first, but the instructions that came w/my Mityvac advise to start w/the driver front. Does that sound kosher? This is a complete brake job (M/C-to-drums) and I've already bench bled the M/C. But Mityvac's suggestion caught me off...

Autolite 2100: Stripped fuel filter threads.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up going w/the JB Weld "nuclear" option, adding a plastic inline filter at the pump to help keep the newly permanent one as clean as possible. So far, so good: No leaks and running pretty smoothly w/only the bench settings done. M_C

Autolite 2100: Stripped fuel filter threads.

Looks like I got too aggressive while installing a new Wix filter on a new Autolite 2100. This morning I commenced w/fine tuning the carb and I noticed a fuel drip from the fuel inlet; went to "gently" tighten the connection and it all went badly. A bigger fuel leak and, when I backed out the...

    Leaf spring removal/installation.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. The removal went off w/out a hitch: I guess a few days of PB Blaster on a west coast car means no seized front bolts (I had my reciprocating saw all ready for combat too). If there was a "hitch" in it, it was that the front bolts didn't want to come out all...

    Leaf spring removal/installation.

I'm in the process of replacing the gas tank on an old Mustang and since I have ample access now to the rear end, I decided to put in new leaf springs and shocks. That said, I want to make sure I'm doing this right: 1) Chock front wheels. 2) Remove rear tires (for access). 3) Jack up car...

Keep blowing main fuse on CB400.

Two weeks ago I was out for a ride and lost all electrical. Pulled over, did a few checks and found the 15A main fuse had blown (lucky the spare was still there). Anyway, replaced it and off I went with no problems. So yesterday I get my bike out, turn the key and find myself w/out electrical...

Will my Corolla last for 15 more years?

There is a member on the GenVibe web forum that has over 400,000 miles on his '04 Vibe, the mechanical twin/cousin of the Matrix/Corolla. Over the years I've read his maintenance posts and they're pretty much just 5K OCI's (Valvoline products and FRAM!!! filters) and basic maintenance things...
