But im using 20w50 not 10w30

The thinnest the manual lists is 5w30 but thats for cold weather and now the engine has over 300k miles..wont oil consumption go up if i put thinner oil than the current 20w50 im using? or does a top synthetic (but thinner oil)manages oil consumption better than a thicker mineral?

Does a mineral oil with the correct viscosity offer better protection than a full synthetic but with the incorrect viscosity?im asking because my son left some 0w20 & 5w30 fully synth oils but the owners manual of my 33year old car (with over 300k miles and slight oil consumption) does not list...

Are there any benefits in engine longevity between shorter 4k miles OCI with lower spec oil or longer 8/10k miles OCI with higher spec oil?some say frequent changes are better and some say top spec oil can be left 10k or more...

Its a 30 year old car used daily doing around 8000miles a year..currently im putting a top synth and leave it 1 year but some people advised to better put a lower spec oil but change it twice a year around 4000miles...temps rarely go below 10/12 celcius here in malta and driving is mainly around...
