Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

Yeah man I agree I am pretty retarded. It does not help that I am a hyper over thinker.

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

A good friend of mine runs 20w50 vr1 in all of his high power builds, and sent me a video of a cold start around 40-45°f and it built pressure very quickly. I was surprised. I guess I may be reading far too many opinions on what oil to run. The engine makes very good oil pressure at operating...

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

The title for the post is requesting information on a USA vendor for 5w50 VR1, I am aware that the link I provided is not a domestic vendor. I appreciate the input regarding the pump ability of 20w50 at 40°f, I have a fair bit of valve spring pressure so I want to run VR1. I have read...

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

That’s another thing I have read a lot about with 50w oil, people breaking oil pump shafts. Seems hard to believe? It’s odd seeing conflicting input regarding a thicker oil in an old pushrod V8, some people swear by it and others recommend 5w30. I think in my case specifically because of the...

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

I guess I should I phrased my question better, I realize the pour point is quite low with 20w but how well does it pump at 40°f for those first few seconds? I wouldn’t imagine all that great. I guess lot of my confusion comes from seeing a fair bit of caution given to running 20w50, but on the...

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

Can you explain pour point? I see it a lot but I don’t really understand what it means.

Trying to source USA vendor of Valvoline VR-1 5w50

I am having a difficult time finding a domestic source for Valvoline VR-1 5w50 synthetic. I got ahead of myself a few months ago and purchased a case Valvoline VR-1 20w50 synthetic, and want to thin it down to ~10w50 after thinking maybe it would be too thick on start up. This is for a full...

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

It’s a spring/summer car, and the coldest it would be when taking it to work is 45-50°f.

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

Interesting, people make it seem like 20w50 is going to flow like glue unless it’s 250°f. That was part of my reasoning to attempt mixing it. Being that my engine has massive valve spring pressure and a large cam I would think straight vr1 would be a good choice.

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

I guess part of my concern with 20w50 is cold start flow, even in summer weather. I read so much about the 0/5w oils benefiting cold start protection that now I have reservations about running a 20w.

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

What exactly is the concern with the clash of friction modifiers?

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

The problem is I do have both on hand. 6qts of each. I was planning on doing this mix during the summer months and 5w40 in colder months. As long as it is safe to mix the oils I intend to do it.

Mixing VR1 synth with 5w40 euro

Hello everyone, this is my first post here so apologies if it’s in the wrong area. I’m looking to run a summer oil blend next year of 4qts 5w40 euro valvoline and 3qts of synthetic VR1 20w50 which would theoretically give me an approximate 9w44 viscosity. The car is a 1974 Pantera with a 427...
