This why I won't use very thin oils. When I drove my new car home the very first thing I did was to drain the thin stuff out and replaced it with a 5W-30 oil . Posters such as you have taught me what I need to know about such matters and I appreciate it so much.
While I cannot say which oil you should use, it's M1 ESP 0W-30 for my cars. I like the HTHS of 3.5 and maybe a little esters. I don't extend oil changes on my cars and I know I can trust the M1 0W30 will be fine till I change again.
I came into these forums in May of 2002, the same day Bob Winters established it. I don' recall a ban talk on the subject of "Best Oils". Of course, I fully understand there really is NO ONE Best Oil out there.
Back to your question about which oil to use, I'll go for M 1 ESP 0/5W-30. For my 2020 2.0 GDI this what I use. In fact, it recommends 5W-30 oil, which pleases me. Most of the time I use Shell midgrade and it seems to work well for me. Hope you have a long happy ride with your Equinox.
If money is no problem you might consider HPL in either a 30 or 40 grade. Otherwise a great choice would be Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 or 5W-30 because of its HTHS of 3.5. It's on the thicker side of the 30 grades. Hope you enjoy your vehicle for its long operational life.

This product by Smith and Allen has been around as far back as I remember. I haven't seen or used their oil but I don't think anything bad will happen with it. You're not apt to notice any difference in mpg using it. If so, very little.
I don't have a count but I could go several years on the oil supply I do have. I don't care to hoard a lot of oil. I don't want a large supply when reformulations, such as API and ILSAC updates. Actually, when I change oil in my cars I want the most recent versons available. At some point...
As they keep building these engines are they making changes so that they are reliable? Surely they must have some idea of how to make engines that don't drink oil so badly. I know there is more to it than just this. It just seems to me that they should make engines that can be counted on to go...
I fully believe that 2 year changes in most cases would be OK. If I was going to change oil every two years I would do a UOA at the end of year 1 and see the condition it's in so I could be sure it's safe for the engine.
I certainly am in agreement with those who think your engine looks very good for the miles it has. Overkill brought up something I did not think about, and that's the rings and lands. You can use Mobil 1 ESP 0/5W30, or HPL or VRP and clean that area up. You're in good shape overall.
