You can still make a good deal on the bay boxes from Walmart. Last year, they gave me $20 per box through Venmo. Very easy. After reading the fine print, it looks like virtual cards this year. Perhaps they'll work with you on the math for maximizing bay box rebates.

You jest, but flat spots commonly condemn wheels and axles. You can youtube “train wheel flat spot” and see some pretty interesting videos. Flat spots damage the rail, traction motors, all sorts of things.
