So I was working my parts counter today and a customer brought in some old school Castrol GTX 10w-40. I'm talking really old school guys, like SJ grade with the 80's text/characters on it! What should I do with it? I have like 18 bottles of this stuff sitting my store by my oil tank! I would...

    BMW M3, what motor oil?

Hey everyone, I'm going to be picking up a 1995 BMW M3 with 157k on the motor. I know that this motor would take a nice thick oil like a 40wt, but I"m conflicted as to what I should use. Cost is no option, I'll pay what I have to for the best motor oil. I'm look for oil that will make the least...

So I have been running DELO 400 in my BMW..

In these past few months, I took the BITOG advice and ran DELO 400 in my 535i. My gas mileage went down a bit, but after my engine got used to it, things went to normal. Now my engine is quieter and happy. Therefore, I am happy. My question is, how long should I keep it in? I currently have...

My Old German Car Needs Thick Euro Oil....

So, I currently have hoarded many bottles of GC for my Benz, which is fine for that (it's a 2000) But my BMW (1990 535i M30 engine-75k on a rebuild) cannot use GC. The manual says I should go with a 15w-40. I can run dino or syn, but I have a small engine leak at the oil pan gasket, which I am...

If fram is so bad, then why is it being sold in every store I go to??

So.. I walk into autozone to look for some GC... I see fram. I go to pep boys, I see fram. I go to Kragen, I see fram. Wally World... fram. Ace Hardware, more fram. It seems that every establishment that I go into sells Fram. What's worse is, that is most of their stock. Oil or air... I that's...

Anyone in Kansas City, MO know of any Green GC?

So I am being flown out to a debate tournament in about 2 weeks.. I figure heck, I might as well do some shopping while I was there... I figure that the Green Stuff isn't as popular as it is in Cali, so, I was wondering whether or not any of the locals knew if some was left. Thanks!

looking for a new bimmer oil....

So I usually get mobil 10w-40 ep at the autozone... I would run GC, but the manual requires 15w-40. The problem being, I don't like the cold start up clatter I get with the M1. I have been hearing for a while now that M1's multi-grade xW-40 usually shear down to a 30wt. So, what I am looking...

So.. I have the task of a rebuild.....Viper Style!

My dad's wrecking yard got a 1992 Viper in yesterday. Insurance just handed it to us, and the owner could careless. The odo reads 73,988. From what we are told, the car got into 6 rolls and landed upside down, but the drivetrain looks soild. So, I asked my dad for the car, and he's gonna let...

So I cut open the fram....

Before I learned of this board, I used a fram cartridge filter in my BMW.. then I learned better. I promptly went to pep boys and got me a pureolator. I then cut the cartridge open.. and wasn't suprised... the filter medium was as thick and as durable as construction paper. Very easy to rip...

Ok, so it's a noob question, but hey... I did do a search..

So, noob question. What is the difference between German Castrol and "regular" castrol? What is the difference between Green and Gold? Also, I hear the OEM oil for BMW is Castrol.. is this true?

So I switched to syn... and my car is leaking oil....

Pretty much what the title says, I think the previous owner used dino for 70k.... I put in M1 syn 10w-30, now I got a nasty leak.. It's been going on for about a week or so now.. I narrowed it down to the oil pan gasket(which I would have to jack the engine up) or a the rear main seal. So I am...

The big range viscosities... do they lead to sludge?

I was thinking of running M1 T&Suv, or another 5w-40 in my bimmer... the 10w-30 feels... kinda thin. I want a thicker oil. But I have heard that when those kinds of oils are used, they are more prone to sludging than a regular 5w-30 because of the viscosity. Thoughts?

Oil you don't have to change.. Synlube??

http://www.synlube.com That pretty much says it... You never have to change your oil again.. Is this actually true? Can this be done? Fellas, we must investigate this.

Got a new filter... is STP any good?

Yeah, I have to do an oil change on the other car.. a 2000 Mercedes-Benz c230 Kompressor.... I got some M1 5w-30 full syn... but was kinda iffy on the filters considering I now know fram is bad, so I picked up an STP filter from autozone for like $9. Is this any good?

So, it's my first post, and I want the oil guys advice...

Hey all, I found this site off of bimmerforums.com, and so far I have to say I am impressed. Before I continue, I did run a search, and looked at the BMW thread, but really didn't answer my question, so I figured I would post. I have a 1990 BMW 535i. Engine is 3.5 liter SOHC inline 6.. or one...
